Does anyone else have to always reset their router?

My wireless internet works fine but the odd few times it does not connect when i boot up to desktop, i have to unplug and replug my router, i do this about 3 times a week, although sometimes a system restore will work instead.
Anyone know what may be causing this? I am on Windows 7 and have a Netgear WGR614 v6 router.
I also have the latest driver for my wireless card and the latest firmware on my router. I have a Compaq CQ56 206SA notebook just in case all this information is relevant.

I had a virginmedia supplied D-link DIR-615 and had to reboot it almost daily, as I suspected it was virginmedias custom firmware to blame, after flashing to D-links factory firmware it's worked perfectly ever since.
if your router is not supplied by an ISP check is there is any firmware upgrades for it.0 -
I know it will be a nuisence, but for a time try just using an ethernet cable connection to the router, if it still drops out, and you have the latest router firmware, then it could be a line problem or a faulty router - if its an ISP supplied router, go them and they may send you a replacement. I carry a spare router just to check these things out (Just to be sure I swap the microfilter and telcable too). My line sufferred from this problem 18 months ago, and was traced to a LL problem due to heavy rain and water getting into the underground cables
If it only happens on wireless , I sorted one yesterday by using Windows updates, and installed both SP1, and the wireless driver suggested from the updates. Another simple thing to try is changing the channel in the router in case you are getting interference from close neighbours on the same channel; 1, 6 & 13 are best in the UK (or 11 if the router doesn't permit 13).0 -
If a system restore of the laptop solves the problem then the issue is going to lie in the laptop, possibly a fault with the driver or more likely the wifi card going to sleep and not waking. Check the properties of the wifi card and look for (and disable) the option that allows the OS to turn the device off to conserve power. How do I add a signature?0

I have this problem occassionally with my Belkin cheap as chips router.
When I wake my desktop up, the one with the wired connection, I sometimes have to restart the router (yellow warning triangle in network icon).
Then I realised how much is running off it and it's a wonder it works at all!
1 wired desktop, 1 desktop, 1 laptop, 1 netbook, 2 PS3s, 2 Xbox360s, 1 Wii, 1 3DS, 4 mobile phones.
Not all at the same time, of course, but at least a few will be active during the day.0 -

These are just opinions...........
1, I understood from the OP that he implied he has upgraded the driver, ergo was the problem there before? In which case a restore won't fix this.
2, Wireless cards in my experience don't sleep, unless the laptop does, usually when the laptop wakes the polling should ensure a reconnect after a short brief period.
3, turning the wireless off again is usually an explicit option that requires turning it off via a switch or a combination of keys possibly Fn & F9 depending on the model (maybe F12 on the Compaq CQ56 206SA), etc. I don't believe this is a default option, but if you can give me an example of one that does, I would be interested to know.
Wireless issues can be difficult to diagnose, as a previous poster said, see if it occurs with a wired connection first, to see if it is indeed a wireless only issue or a more general fault with the router or line.0 -
I am quite sure it is not a problem with the laptop itself, there are three laptops connected to the same router and they all have the same problem, one is XP, one is Vista and mine is Windows 7.
I might have to look into the firmware thing, i am not sure how to get Netgear's factory firmware but will check.
The ethernet cable idea is good but looking at where the router is positioned it is quite a nuisance, maybe i will leave it to a final option. The router is on channel 11 at the moment, i guess i could try changing the channel to see if that works.
I honestly don't know why a system restore works, but sometimes i even have to do it a few times and keep selecting different restore points but eventually the wireless connection comes back on. The box is actually checked to conserve power for the wireless card but the problem only happens when i boot to desktop so the wireless card would always switch on as well.
I am going to have to contact my ISP and see if i can get another router or a modem/router combo, they might offer one.0 -
