fire places?

Hi,
This is probably a very stupid question, but does anyone know if you can buy a fake cast iron fireplace?
Like the one shown in the link? but just in plastic or something? I dont want it to work, just to look nice ha ha ha
Do shops ever use fake ones for display only or anything?
Thanks!

Why would you have a plastic fire surround? It would melt. Or did you not think about that?

But it would only melt if it was used - and the OP said it would be just for display and not for use.

I'm not going to set fire to it. I don't need a fire, i have central heating. But I like how nice they look and think it would be a nice focal point for the room. I dont want to use it as a fire.. just look at it..

have a look on ebay , you might pick up a real one for a reasonable price http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_kw=cast+iron+fireplace

a few on there for less than £100 and some less than £50 , probably much better than a plastic one

But a fire surround has to be fit for purpose ie that the fire will be used. How any court cases would there be if a shop sells a fire surround not for the purpose of actually using it as a fire surround. That's absurd.

Yes and the reason it doesn't exist s that it would be used as a fire surround and melt. !!!!!!.

It wouldn't be used as a fire surround! It's just a feature to look at.
If I bought a big photo of a fireplace I wouldnt set fire to it, thinking oh well, it looks like a fire... I'll attempt to use it as one..

Yes but no-one would reasonably mistake a photo of a fireplace for a real fireplace, but someone could easily put a fake plastic fireplace around a fireplace opening and then have someone else try and light a fire there.

There are hundreds of types of cast iron fireplaces out there, a lot of them 1/2 the price you will see than at B&Q.

You won't get anything plastic, you may find some cast effect electric suites which are made from MDF, but if you just want the cast effect without a fire you would be better looking at something like a combination cast fireplace. They are smaller, made all in cast iron, screws against the wall and a simple DIY job to do. Something like this possibly...

You just wont be able to use the cast insert part of it. There are lots of different styles to choose from.

    My favourite is

You can put different tiles in to suit your decor.

To The posters who are saying you would set fire to a plastic fireplace, The OP is asking about something decorative only. You can buy plastic bananas but you wouldn't try and eat one !
