o2 Priority Moments

I've already searched the forums but it didn't bring up an answer, so don't yell at me if this has already been discussed...
I keep seeing so many freebies advertised for o2 Priority Moments, what exactly do you need to do to get them? Obviously I know you need to be an o2 customer. But - can you just get a PAYG sim and top it up once, or do you need top up a set amount each month, or have a contract? I've googled all this and can't seem to find any real info other than which number you need to text to set it up! I was wondering if it would be a bit like Orange Wednesdays where you can get the SIM but don't really need to use it, just to take advantage of the offers.

Get a free O2 pay-as-you-go SIM, download the app if you have a smartphone and register on the website. I'm on Giffgaff and the Android app works lovely. This space has been intentionally left blank0

You just need any o2 sim to make it work on your handset.
@glennthebaker mine works fine on GG to0 -
Doh, I totally forgot I tried to reply to this days ago but the site wouldn't let me log in at the time...
I searched for details on the app but there seems to be surprisingly little info about the exact details. Do you actually need to be using your o2 SIM to connect to the app? Or do you just need the o2 SIM to get an account set up and then you can use the app on any network? Just wondering as my handset is locked to my network, I'd be able to get an o2 number set up but I wouldn't be able to keep swapping out the SIM in my own phone to use the app.0 -
It authenticates for a period of time, mine periodically requires me to enter my number and get a code via SMS to authenticate it to continue using it.0

Yeah, I just read something about that - so if you say you want to use the offer you have only a short time period to redeem it, will remember that. But do you need to be connected to the o2 network at the actual time of using the app? This is the only thing I can't find out.0 -

No. I was on giffgaff when I signed up for it. Switched to 3 back in October and the app on my iPhone only just stopped working a few weeks ago.0
