I cannot retrieve my emails from AOL's AIM email service. I have got the message:

We have detected unusual activity on this account and for your security are temporarily blocking access. To regain access to this account, please change your password.
If you are unable to change your password, contact Member Services at 1-877-786-0722 for further assistance.

When I try and answer my security questions which I know are correct it rejects them. I can't even get through on the phone number as it isn't recognized. I need this email as all my business accounts, Paypal etc use this. It is very important. :(

My guess is that your account has been blacklisted - it maybe that your system has been subject to a hack, resulting in your system sending out emails without your authorisation. The first thing you need to do is to check your system for viruses. Make sure your AV is upto date and scanned. You should also download and run malwarebytes from here http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Depending on the results further action may be necessary - you will see a sticky above for more info on removing malware.

PS the phone no above is for the USA; try this from AOL UK which is operated by Talktalk...

How and where did you first receive notification that your account was blocked, and how did you get to the security page to enter your details?
How do I add a signature?

IMHO once the malware is in, AV's aren't so good at detecting - as I said download and install malwarebytes etc, as per the second part of the above post, oh and call AOL UK.................

I have ditched the account and opened up another. Just downloaded mailware bites now and it is picking up stuff. I also have Glary Utilities which is supposed to pick up mailware.

I have had the same thing happened to me. But once you verify your account with your password and other security questions that you used when you set up your account. They will let you back in again. I think it happened to me because I had not logged into my account for about two months. And some email services they deactivate or suspend you account if you have been inactive on that account.

You can avoid this being a problem by just logging into your account say once a week just to keep it open.

But to tell you the truth I had two AOL accounts and the same thing happened. And it is very time consuming having to go through all of the captcha, security questions(which you don't always remember)all over again.

It seems that only AOL locks you out of your account if you have been inactive but most other email service don't. So now I have switched to G Mail instead. much better and more user friendly than AOL.

So if you want my advice dump AOL and switch to G Mail or Yahoo. AOL is crap and a waste of space.

Free email accounts are not suitable for business use. If your email is very important, you should pay for an email account with a service level agreement.

For example, Google Apps for Business includes an email account and costs £33 per user each year. Not too much if your email is very important.

What pay for an email account? Give over. I use both G Mail and Yahoo Mail which are free accounts and they are much better than AOL. But everybody says the same thing about AOL it's rubbish.

If you pay and something goes wrong, you'll get priority support and the company will fix your email account faster. I use a free email account for my personal emails, but I would pay for an email account if I wanted to use it for business accounts.
