Speaking of the AD's. I was talking to a mum tonight about depression and we were nodding and sharing notes on it. I told her I had started a new job and she was mystified. She thought you shouldn't work while on AD's and I should consider quitting for the good of my health. My job makes me happy! Do depressed people not work generally?
Sounds like a load of 5*bolls to me. Half the adult population of the UK is either on ADs, has been on them or is likely to be on them at some point. Or has depression being treated by other means, or not treated at all. Depression is one of these invisible illnesses, as soon as anyone mentions it half the hands in any group go up as in Me Too.
I think if stress at work is one of the contributing factors in your depression then yes, some modifications to your work pattern might be in order. But how many people can afford to give up work long term? And many if not most folk (including yourself ) find work gives them stability, structure, something interesting and rewarding to do during the day and increased feelings of self worth, not to mention some money. These are all things that help with depression, not increase it. But again, it does depend on what's causing the depression.
On a lighter note it's DD's birthday today. The lounge is awash with purple wrapping paper and purple themed presents. She seems well pleased with her pile of swag, none of it was that expensive and I bulked out the pile with some new things for her bedroom makeover (purple throw/giant alarm clock/purple cushions and glitzy duvet cover) that I would have probably ended up buying for her anyway tbh. She's still young enough (11) to enjoy the unwrapping part almost as much as the contents though, lol. With Ds's birthday being last month and Christmas looming we simply can't afford the same £300-£400 worth of gifts that a couple of her friends can get. One girl of her age got £250 in cash, a full present heap and a party for 20 at the Megabowl. Easily £600 if not more! DD is getting a birthday treat of course, I'm taking her and two friends to the Edinburgh Dungeons (Online family ticket is half the door price) and then for lunch at Jimmy Chungs, then back here for cake and videos. And she made her own cake which, apparently, is much more fun than buying one.Val.0 -
KIDKAT - Thank you so much for letting me know that the dog is OK, talking it over with He who knows last night he said most fungi would taste sulpherous to a pooch so they would spit them back out, not ingest, but just in case the quick dealing with it might save life. Am hoping that all is still OK today and that you are feeling a little better yourself.

Lyn your humour is a tonic dear friend
I figured out a solution to new leaky boots... carrier bags on my feet:rotfl:
Going to see my nephew tonight, and my niece. I'm determined to make as much fuss of her as possible. I'm taking flapjack and custard. Sis is struggling, but who doesn't. I've a hooter hider to make for her this afternoon.a breast feeding cover up.
Actually I have loads to do this afternoon! I'd best be off.0 -
Yes I've used carrier bags for leaky boots often when I was skint. Your feet tend to slide up and down a we bit though LOL0

Hmmm. Maybe a layer of sock on the top? I'll hunt an old pair that I don't mind getting soaking. Gone are the days where I've thought. oh they just carp, chucked and bought new
Well as suspected we were unsuccessful for any houses this time but I'm feel all is not lost because we finished in positions 20, 32 and 38. Considering we've only been on the list a week :rotfl: hopefully 6 months-12 months we'll be in a more healthier position.
What does go against us is that we're out of the area so if there's someone that wants a property that have ties to North Yorkshire they will always get first dibs. As it should be.
It's 2 years 10 months till we can rent anywhere as the bankruptcy will be off our files. That's not bad is it. I can stick it out a bit longer. At least when the BR is off we can rent privately and have a choice where to live rather than making do with whatever LL will dare take us on etc. The damp has progressed into the back of the wall where LL made fitted wardrobes. I've been in there this morning and it's a whole lot worse in just 4 days. I'm going to heat that room tonight but to be honest the wall is wet to touch so it's definitely leaking in. We had bad storms last night and the night before. We've had a lot of water drop again.
Anyway, not my problem (I hope!) a closed door works wonders.0 -
So...wasn't The Great British Bake Off wonderful?
I can just hear Simon Cowell's wheels turning: Round three of the XFactor: You have to sing whilst baking a victoria sponge.
Final round: (The Hollywood theme) : Sing whilst baking a chocolate gateaux and dancing the cha-cha-cha. That should get the ratings up :rotfl:
Hugs to anyone who needs them (many of you by the sound of it) and stay warm and healthy everyone.Normal people worry me.0 -
FUDDLE - Enjoy your visit and snuggle the little one lots and lots and also your little niece. When it comes to applications for houses, take a letter out of the book of Robert the Bruce and 'If at first you don't succeed, try try try and try again!!!!! and look where that determination got him !!!!! Glad to make you laugh any time, have a good one, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Morning gang!
Had to get Mattie to the vetty person this morning for 9am  We'd had to delay her annual booster because of the meds for her poorly ear (now wonderfully better) She's not a morning dog, and I was knackered because DD and I went shopping yesterday, so only just managed to get up in time, and now I am £70 lighter in the wallet  Booster shots, ear cleaner and 2 lots of Advocate for the dogs, the third monthly dose to clear any lurking earmites....good job we love them eh?:o
Anyway DD and I did GOOD shopping, we went to the wholesaler got our masses of loo paper, a good deal on washing powder, and a few reductions, including a massive cooked turkey breast which we split between us, and loads of bananas for 20p a bunch (destined for the freezer to make cake). We then went and joined the OTHER wholesaler, the big local restaurant supplier around here, and to our great joy discovered that some of what we need regularly is loads cheaper there, and that they ALSO have reduced sections :T Got a whole uncut salami with fennel seeds for £8 a kilo...the boys in the family all love it, so we got OH to run it through the slicer when we got home and DD took loads of that too.
We spotted a split pack of white 'noodle' boxes reduced to £2.50 and we decided that we can make that our Christmas chocs packaging for the market, boxes are so expensive. We'll jolly it up with a christmassy sticker and a bit of ribbon. We bought a bag of the Callebut white chocolate chips as sold to caterers to play with, spotted a few Xmas pressies for the family, a few lovely xmas decs in The Range, hit Wilkins*ns to stock up with household and doggie treats and generally had a good time. Most of it was food shopping though and we wondered if it was probably a bit sad that we both got so excited at reduced foodand food shopping generally ...but hey? What's not to like
So today I shall quickly be trying to put all this stuff away! The words quart and pint pot spring to mind, and today is also my new designated craft day. As I seem to find so little time to play with my craft stuff, and I get so frustrated that I can't, I've decided that one day a week is my craft day, and everything else can go to wrack and ruin!!!

That sounds a fun shopping trip Kate!
Fuddle enjoy baby snuggles.
A chilly start here but the sun is attempting to shine now, and at last my christmas cakes are in the oven.
Waiting on a phone call from school as DS finally confessed a bullying issue which has been going on since last term. He didn't want us to say anything in case the other boy got worse but we must get it stopped. Ugh.0 -
Well its still raining here, its been very heavy at times.
As its been very windy there is lots of leaves on the ground, in some places its covered in them. Used to love walking in the park when the kids where small and collecting leaves and putting them in a scrap book.
I suggested that to my niece few days ago that she should do that with her kids and she laughed and said the kids would think she was mad. My how this world has changed.
Fuddle enjoy your cuddles with the baby.
Mrs L I was laughing at your post they do cheer me up, if you dont mind may I call you Lyn.
