  • Fuddle, I don't know if it would work for you but I keep a wish list for my forever home, big things like solar panels, but also style ideas for example cast iron cookware.
This gives me a focus for research so I can make the right decisions and means I save to buy little bits that work now but will also be right when the time comes.
It's a bit like imagining your cake whilst licking the icing if you know what I mean.
I keep it all in a next home folder.

My hair needs washing but am going out tonight so will do it then, in the meantime I want to get to the allotment and will wear a scarf
    http://www.superkawaiimama.com.au/2010/03/26/3-easy-ways-to-tie-a-headscarf-retro-style/

tbh, my hair was cut a bit too short on the crown and it is sticking up so I want to hide it for now but t`ll be ok tonight when freshly washed. Think I`ll do the second scarf way, on the side. Haven`t quite got the courage to cycle through the village with a retro wartime style

re shtf, I have ordered my seed potatoes as I hear that good ones will be in short supply and am planting garlic and onion sets today, if the rain goes off

Crossing post: I like the idea of the next home folder or just some things to aim for. Always good to have something to look forward to

Oh I love the idea of a next home folder. It's something that would help me on down days. Thank you. :)

Fuddle - if a child has any SEN then all staff, including lunch staff are supposed to me made aware of that, otherwise they could do something wrong. They dont get to know everything, but there should be a basic summary sheet for each child giving pertinent details.

I have seen a few different sheets dependant on condition, the ASD ones I recognise easily, but I have seen them for diabetes, asthmics, OCD and several other things.
The sheets should also be on hand to show to supply teachers etc so that they can gain a quick overview of the class needs.

Thanks Kidcat, I will ask the head in that case. Teaching staff won't allow me to know anything. I suspect there are 5 children with SEN but I have no clue what their needs are. I suspect ADHD with one child and I know there is one child with autism because he has 'the file'. Like you say, you have to alter how you work based upon what a child needs. That doesn't stop because you work in a dinner hall and yard on £6.36 an hour. I'm finding it really frustrating being 'lower' (I want a different word but can't find one) than support or teaching staff now. It is very difficult 'going back' in an environment where I was once respected (by outside agencies not necessarily teaching staff or collegues) for what I did. It's ok, I know it's a means to an end right now and a stepping stone back into it.

Kidcat - I rather suspect you could :)
Fuddle - I always type Fuddly :D - as you stay it is a means to an end and your concern indicates that you are not doing the job you should be. But one day, one day. I didn't start doing what I do now until I was around your age, life changes and you, of all, will adapt. Your time will come work wise, I have no doubt and, meantime, those kids will remember you as much as any teacher. I am going to a school reunion in a couple of weeks (largely cos they are knocking the school down), and one of our dinner ladies is going. I am stupidly excited to see her, 30+ years on and she looks exactly the same - even though she is approaching 90 now.

We are hosting a lunch tomorrow for some friends - only 7 extras but we have an added complication that DD has to be ferried to and from work and DS has to be ferried to and from a football match. Therefore I am doing a simple buffet - I am cooking a gammon joint in coca cola and roasting a turkey breast then serving with HM breads, HM coleslaw and other salads. There will be chips and dips and some "kiddy" bits - sausage rolls, little sausages and a veggie quiche for DD and anyone else who wants some. I am cooking an evil chocolate mousse cake and somehting fruity for pud. Hopefully ther will be plenty of leftovers for Monday's tea.

I also need to tidy and clean the house - but DD and DS are going to pitch in. Whether they want to or not - I rather suspect not. DD has said she is dusting and tidying her room later :dance: Where is a "faint" smilie when you need one?
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Morning Toughies, we overslept today and didn't wake up until 8.30 was lovely!!!!!

KIDKAT - Well done on the party being such a success I am very pleased it all went off well after all your hard work and organisation, I'll bet you're shattered today though, take it easy if you can.

FUDDLE - Nice to hear you chirpy again today, love the idea of the 'Next Home File' that is exactly what we need to stay motivated, a little vision of how we would like the future to be and something to aim for on dark days, that's inspirational.

Going to have a baking day today and use all the space in the oven and save some fuel expenditure which will set us up for the week. I did this last weekend and made enough keep in the fridge things to see us through the week. He who knows came back from the hound walk yesterday very excited as he's seen a very large group of what he thinks are Parasol Mushrooms in the horse pasture they walk through. I have dissuaded him from harvesting them until I go with him armed with the Roger Phillips Mushroom Book which has actual photographs and not drawings. I must see them growing to know if they are what he thinks, if they are Mmmmmmmmmm Yummy but it doesn't pay to take risks with fungi.

We currently have nice sunshine and blue skies but it's only 8 degrees outside and feels decidedly autumnal. Have a good day all, Cheers Lyn xxx.

I do get 1 weeks respite every 4 weeks , but he is only home 1 day and I feel ive not had a break........

He says to me he forgets ive got medical needs as well as him and he says that the stroke as made him selfish which it as,if im trying to do 6 things at once like we all do with families every day , he wants first ettention and with me with high or low blood sugars, IShould really be looking out for myself first..........

Never mind weve got flu jabs at 11 this morning, plus the rapid reponse should be here at any time to take his blood for the usual daily DVT readings so I know what meds to give him tonight, this morning when he got up he had a seizure, he come round quite quick and refused me to phone 999.....He is on quite a lot of meds for epilesey, and it has been quite well controlled.............

Morning Lyn DH made me promise to never even think about foraging the mushroomy stuff. He knows me too well. I do hope you find what He Who Knows thinks they are ;)

How long does home baking keep for? I'd love to batch cook our puddings, lunch box and snacks for the week but 1) I EAT THEM!!! and 2) worried they go iffy before Weds, Thurs if I make on a Sunday etc?

I am trying to lose weight. Egg and soldiers for breakfast.

Carrot Cookies 'We'll Eat Again' Margueritte Patten

    1 tbsp marg
    2 tbsp sugar
    a few drops vanilla/almond/orange flavouring
    4 tbsp grated raw carrot
    6 tbsp SR flour

    Cream fat and sugar
    beat in flavouring and carrot
    fold in flour
drop spoonfuls onto greased patty pans (what are these?)
    sprinkle tops with sugar
bake in brisk oven (180 do?) for 20 mins.

Going to try. Hope you don't mind me sharing. I was gifted the book and would like to pass the recipes onto you all. :)

It's a fabulous book innit ? I love it - real food :) I want to ask anybody who is diabetic here - what is the best sweetener to use in baking things like flapjacks etc? I'm trying to go sugar-free for a few weeks to see if it makes the ME sod off a bit. When I tried the RVs sweetener in baking once, it was hellish. Is there a nice one?
