Poor April - today we hear she has cerebral palsy and needs pain medication. I really feel for parents and friends but am even more horrified that a five year old was allowed out to play at 7pm. I apologise if that is judgemental but a whole life working with babies and children has really opened my eyes

Molly, I don't have children and I'm not in the least maternal (about human offspring that is :p) and I thought exactly the same. I'm surprise that more people haven't expressed their horror at that -however close the community may be, a 5 year old ought not be out at that time of night.

I hope with all my heart that April will be found well.

Stiltwalker and Kidcat, my contract seems to be a rolling contract too, although recently my LL asked if I wanted to stay another 12 months. I expected to have a paper contract but no, so does this mean I still need only give a month's notice? I've been here almost 21/2 years.

As for April, bless her, the alledged (sp) abductor is claimed to be a close family friend. Although I wouldn't let my DD out when she was little, I can understand how it happens in a close community where everyone knows everyone else. She went off with someone she knew it seems.

I know I'm talking about the dark ages, but as a child I played out till late when with siblings and friends and could spend the whole day out before going home when hungry. I also remember how we would ask complete neighbourhood strangers if we could walk their dog or take their baby out! And often were allowed to. There were also some hairy moments when suspect characters tried enticing us. Not often but enough to scare the carp out of me.

It's so sad though. I can't imagine what the family are going through.

edit: I also think people don't openly express their horror at a 5 yr old being out because the worst has happened, and I'm sure the family are distraught and guilt ridden. Nonetheless, if it is this man being held by the police, it was not a stranger and it would appear he was going to do something given enough time. Statistically a child is more likely to be hurt by someone known to them.

MoggyF (also have MoggyT) has just been doing everything in his power to stop me typing this. Washing my hands, purring loudly, standing in front of screen and I thought how affectionate and lovely he's being. Realised however all he wanted was more cat biscuits, crafty devil :rotfl:He has just sneaked upstairs (thinks I can't hear him) to get onto our bed again. After 2 days of me being in bed lots and allowing him to sleep next to me, Master F thinks he can get away with it every day.

Dogs have owners, cats have employees! off to chase down a naughty stripey cat :D

desparate for a cuppa but daresn't attempt one til safely back from school run with a handy loo nearby. sorry if TMI, blasted bug!

  • VJsMUM - Chichester sends its regards, it was a lovely day to visit, had lunch in the Cathedral Refectory and a lovely leisurely stroll round the shops. Found my roaster in a little cookshop at a reasonable price, got DD2s OH a chocolate library from Montezum*s (5 bars of really high cocoa chocolate bars in various flavours) in a box. and all that I wanted from Lak*la*d too so good visit. But best was having time with my lovely friend just to natter and laugh, can't put a price on that can you? Cheers Lyn xxx.

There was a young girl from Nantucket
Who needed a use for her bucket
    A hay box perhaps
    Or a toilet for chaps
Or add wine with a straw and just suck it.

That's the thing though isn't it??? How on EARTH can you protect your child from someone they know? Apart of course from always having them where you can see them, and being very careful about who has 'access' to your family. Scary stuff.

There was an OSer from Hitchin,
Who was plagued by terrible itchin'
She cured it Old Style as suggested by Mard.
with a paste of vinegar bicarb, and lard
all things that she had in the kitchen.

And when do you let go? Do I allow my DD's when they're 12 out alone at 7pm at night... the same thing can happen then. Do I allow them at 15 out at 7pm, again, the same thing can happen... it can happen to me at 33. A very frightening world we live in. All we can do is lessen the chances of it happening and just hope it never does. :(
