Thank you all for your support. Yes they do transport but found out today you may have to wait till 9pm to go home  I found this out cos a man was waiting there from 1pm. My bum would be totally numb waiting all that time and OH would be a basket case. We are getting a lift next week so OH doesnt have to drive home or worry about parking.
They only let one person in to the ward so I cannot have company but am meeting a friend for a cuppa, but thank you both PAH and Kidcat for the offer.

Thanks for all the kind words.
It's very bittersweet, we'd assumed the worst and having to pick him up was just horrendous but we now know and can stop the checking every time the cat flap went.
He was a rescue boy, had been an indoor cat and we slowly got him used to the outdoors, he was with us 6 months. He was daft though and growled at his own food bowl. He will be very missed, especially by DD1 who was his bedtime cuddler. She's upset but pleased to know.

DH uses hospital transport to go to Kings college hospital, they won't allow me to go with him as they need the space for other appointmentees. He's going next week for a 9.30am appointment so he has to be ready to be collected at 6am (he takes his scooter and they assemble it for him as he tries to see two consultants at once), he then has to wait for a space in what ever transport is coming back this way, he'll be lucky if he's home before 8pm. He then has 3 days of high dose meds to take to make him sleep and get his body over the exertions. Don't get me wrong, Im grateful he's able to see the top Drs and get the transport (the trains from here would take 4.5 hours and include several changes) but its such a huge loss of days for an hours appointments."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. Pooky - MiL used to have days like that at Kings and we only lived a couple of miles away! The whole hospital transport system was shambolic. She missed several very imortant appointments with her consultant because it did not turn up (one of which might have actually saved her life
), often turned up when not ordered, took hours to do the couple of miles home, and on one occasion was made to take her prosthetic leg off so that she could get into a seat in the back of the car just because the driver would not ask the person in the front to move (they had nothing wrong with their limbs). She must have spent days and days sitting in the waiting area to be brought home. We collected her whenever we could but she just would not pay to go by taxi for some reason.
Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
It worked best when I could take my Mum and Aunt and drop them off at the front door. They would then call to be collected. Couldn't do it every time though.

I completely agree with you mrsLW, so many people would give up but fuddle always manages to step outside the box and looks for a way to cope and survive. She really is a unique and shining star and a brilliant role model. Fuddle you can be very proud of yourself
My turn now, speaking to dd on the phone and she is recovering after a painful minor female op. Very low bp in the hospital and feeling very chilly and weak still. She is the main wage earner so has to keep going and at long last, I felt the time was right to offer my skills re repairing her health and she has willingly accepted. So I have now ordered what she needs from 3 different suppliers and am so glad to be in a position to help, in more ways than one. I have always treaded carefully as she is a highly trained medic but bit by bit she has come to appreciate how much dh and I support them in all ways. Sometimes it takes decades to realise this but that time has come and it is a turning point, when she is accepting help and the barrier has come down
I saw cleggs on the tv this evening and just despair. Those a**eholes have no idea at all. They should come on here and read this thread and the breaking point thread. I almost cried in frustration when I read some posts today. Candles are most definitely lit tonight and some calming music later and maybe some good energy will go back to a few people who need it0 -
Kittie I am so glad your dd has accepted your help, it must be a relief after watching her struggle. Im sure your strength and resourcefulness will be a big help and hugs of course xClearing the junk to travel light

Do you know what? You have all restored my faith the the innate goodness of people. Here you all are with horrendous problems of your own and still trying to help each other and worrying about each other. I do wish some of the tabloids could get hold of some of these stories and publish them. It would make a welcome change from hearing about the stupid antics of shallow, spoiled 'celebs' who don't seem to know or care what is happening in the world.
I am feeling like I do on a Sunday night when homeless people who have absolutely nothing are sharing the little bits they do have and helping one of their number who was sleeping under a bush in all that dreadful rain and arrived wet to the skin carrying a sopping sleeping bag. I am seriously considering clearing out our garage so that at least they can stay dry. What I don't want to do is to give the council the chance to say that they are no longer a priority because they have shelter.
I am desperate to help everyone in need although I know that realistically I am only able to be a drop in the ocean.
You are all so brave and facing an uncertain future courageously. Lots of illness, lots of financial problems, lots of practical problems.
I LOVE YOU ALL.
And I wish, wish wish that I was in a position to help you.
As it is the people on my doorstep are all I can reach, but my love and prayers are with all of you.
Sorry have nothing more useful to say.I believe that friends are quiet angels

kittie - Its so lovely that you are able to help and support your DD, she is one very lucky lady
Am hopping mad, I changed energy supplier earlier this month, and the final bill has now been produced, they are requesting a payment from me of £35. I gave my meter readings as requested to my new supplier and its all up and running now. However on closer inspection my final gas bill is £116 that is for 3 weeks. Now I have not used any heating at all and am only using gas on the hob and to heat water for one hour per day.
Looking at the bill, the meter reading using was apparently taken by the meter reading, now heres where it gets interesting, our gas meter is in the back garden. The back garden and gate is very secure due to DS8 and his escaping, not to mention we have a huge dog who would eat anyone climbing over. We havent let any meter readers in since June so how did they get a reading.
More interesting is that the meter reading is 300 units above the one I took 5 days later and still way above the current reading. Result is that the bill should be about £11 for gas and they actually owe me money. Their contact centre is closed now but I will be calling tomorrow to complain, not only do I want a new bill and refund I want the meter reader hauled over the carpet.
It does show how carefully we need to check these things, and I suppose it shows how much gas others must be using, as I assume the figure used relates to the average for the area.0 -
Monnagran - you are doing so much already. As for the garage it may be that you dont formally offer your trusted regulars shelter as such, but let it be known to a few that it wont be locked IYSWIM. I would be very wary of making it an open offer though - you could end up with hundreds0
