Hi Pops,
Have you no bones left at all?
Bones will demineralise in a slow cooker but generally bone broths take quite some time and usually have a mild acid added (cider vinegar or similar)
If what you thinking may be fat is a brown jelly like substance, that is chicken stock.

Thanks Mrs Chip and Nuatha,
The chicken is fine but just fell apart but there seemed to be n likeo bones:pand what remains does not look like you suggest.
Tell you what if as you suggest I need to check sooner it cooks quicker than I thought. I'll see what happens next time, not bad for a first attempt though..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Right have popped a pill so hopefully will be getting my head down very soon, but just wanted to say I got there tonight and had a lovely meal at a lovely country inn literally in the middle of no-where. We went by coach and took about an hour to get there.
Talking about how things bring back memories, way back in 1961 my dad was the first person to work out how to get a tv to work in a coach. I have a photo that has me on a coach with dad and some dignitaries all looking up at the tv on an old coach - this coach had a tv in similar place. With it being so near the first anniversary of dad going it certainly brought back memories as I do have a vague memory of that journey - I was 5. Will have to dig the photo out.
Meal was well presented and very nice with good portion sizes. I took some photos of outside, inside and the countryside around so will upload them tomorrow.
So my next outing I hope is off to Museum tomorrow, fingers crossed.
Oh I gave into my panic and after raiding cash machine I popped into Mr S and spent £23 but I got quite a lot for my money as there were still some decent YS items like lamb steaks, cod loin and haddock ( all bagged from fresh fish counter) tinned potatoes, carrots and mushrooms were seriously depleted as was long life milk. At first glance they looked plentiful till you noticed the tins had been brought to the front and there were none behind so got 5 more tins of potatoes, 2 of carrots, 2 of mushrooms and another two long life milks and 2lbs of unsalted butter. Oh and more of the edam cheese slices as I love this cheese and at £1 for 10 are best value I have seen in a long time. I just left hubby with instructions cram everything that wasn't a tin into the fridge and i will freeze it when I get home which I have. I want to get more of potatoes, veg, long life milk, butter and cheese but no more room in either freezer so will just have to be shelf items until I make some space - mind you if I take everything out chest freezer i might be able to make some room as I do just dump things in so end up with gaps.......
A lot of the WI woman were talking about stocking up on vegetables, milk products, cereals etc., so just shows everyone is jittery about the future.
Right whoever it is ( bonnie?) who has interview today good luck.
Night night

I woke up with a start a short while ago. I originally thought it was because I had left damp washing in the washing machine but when I got up DD was being ill in the bathroom. Aren't our senses bizarre when it comes to our loved ones.
DD is now asleep, I'm holed up downstairs with washer on, dog asleep by my feet, blanket on and cuppa in my left hand. At least there's no trekking to school tomorrow as she's been poorly (sure kids have to be absent for 24 hours after the sickies) in the very dire spell of rain. At the moment it's accepted that it's going to rain it's just how heavy.
I've decided to quit buying bread. I buy the whole months worth normally and freeze in the garage freezer. I am going to attempt making my own an use that freezer space for the milk and frozen veg staples of carrots and broccoli.
I mentioned to DH last night that we're in for a tough year re: food supplies and prices. He normally rolls his eyes. Yesterdays declaration got a muttered I know. That to me, that acknowledgement by him, is frightening.
Going to go start Hannah Hauxwell soon and hope that these coming daylight hours see me in a better frame of mind than yesterdays. Really sorry for the woe me kind of stuff. I have nothing to complain about and very, very lucky with my lot.0 -
Eek, tres apprehensive about a flat viewing tomorrow esp about what the fees might be.. we really need the move, £110 a month less!! ><On the up

Is there any sign that it might stop raining soon! What did we do before it rained - can anybody remember?
Thanks to whoever put the link to that wartime book, I just bought a copy. I liked last night's episode of Turn Back Time, it was good. I love how they did some research into the family trees. When they showed the powdered egg I yelped and told the RV ooooh the moneysavers buy that! - he said aye well they're all as batty as you are:rotfl:
I have a problem. Is there anybody in here who can do HTML for a fleabay shopfront? I should really go to the techie board but they're all computer nerds up there and talk a strange language and I never understand them. I can't pay actual cash but can do a bit of bartering ...
My daughter is in Minorca, telling me its sunny and 29c. My GD is in Corfu, telling me it's sunny and 35c. I'm in sick-as-a-parrot and it's 13c in the rain0
