Kidcat - If you are a bit stuck re. the washer, I believe you can rent them - and the renter people do all the repairs etc. Might tide you over for a bit.

Hope grand goggie is settling in well. Well done for giving him a lovely home.

Jamanda you are a genius and I proclaim myself one giant, certified, hat-wearing dunce for not thinking of this - considering that we rent our washer for £4 a week!!!! Never had any probs with it but if we did the washer man would just turn up and fix it, if he couldn't he'd bring us a brand new one within a couple of days. Even if you had to sign up for a year you could either save or would have time to organise a grant application at your leisure.

I didn't enjoy superscrimpers. I thought it would be right up my street but I found myself switching off my mind to it and when that happens I'm best off just switching it off.

Been making myself a blog all about the positive happy side of frugalling. I figured it would keep me focused on the glass half full in times of dire straits.

Wash supposed to have a wash down tonight as promised myself two night wash down, 1 night bath but I really would like some bubbles in my bath so cheating.

'til tomorrow. I hope we can have some positive posts tomorrow :)

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions, I have found one at Mr T and was about to buy for delivery on Sunday when it suddenly went out of stock. A little more searching and found it cheaper at Boots of all places and better still if I ordered by ten tonight they deliver tomorrow:j:j so quickly ordered.

OH went to get shower and came back bemoaning lack of towels - I pointed to huge basket of towels waiting to be washed. Told him that as he expects all washing to go to mums he would have to take it to work with him and then take it for washing afterwards, wait for it and bring home. Reminded him their machine is smaller so its at least two loads so he should be home by about nine tomorrow!!! He kindly suggested I buy a machine pronto :D:D

GQ - have a lovely break and may the weather be kind :)

Latest crisis is that DS8 has somehow managed to work out how to unlock his windows (he is on second floor) using his nails!! Cue nail cutting but he can still do it - so have moved him into living room where we will both spend the night until I can figure out how to secure the blasted thing :)

PAH - have just read your blog, ((hugs))

ETA - Jamanda and stiltwalker, I do wish I had seen your posts earlier it would definitely been something I considered. :)

You should be able to pay into something called Freestanding Additional Voluntary contributions- AVCs at some stage. I took several of these out over my 40 +year NHS career. The services of an independent financial adviser would be helpful to outline what's involved. In some NHS trusts they have 'seminars' for pension planning with access to an IFA. Ask at HR - ask at HR Good kLuck Rosanna

GQ have a great time what ever it involves........so long as its not high barred windows:rotfl:

Kidcat....hope you can sleep ok downstairs and DS8 sleeps right through. You can get bars for the windows they can be removed if needed from outside by fireman and inside in emergency(just not as easily) might be something to consider to keep him safe. Thanks for the hugs am fine now, was a long time ago........

Right will hopefully sleep now so will say night night all

In the Eat, Fast etc programme there was reference to reducing a particular susbstance in the body called IGF after weeks of the fasting regime. This was a major factor in reducing the various cancers.

The downside of a low IGF level (which was not mentioned in the programme) is that if one already has a low bone density as in osteoporosis or the stage before - osteopenia -the risks associated with low bone density such as breaking bones are likely to be increased. This is particularly important with post menopausal women and older men.

It's therefore just as important to get the balance right with portion control, the minimum of 5 x 30 minute exercise sessions such as walking per week, among other factors to prevent problems occurring.

There really needs to be considerably more research done into what is undoubtedly a very interesting subject. If anyone already has health problems and is considering this regime as a means of weight control . PLEASE ask you GP for a referral to your local hospital dietician,

I speak, not only as a health professional, but also as someone who has gone from walking around the house with 2 sticks to losing over 4 stones with the help of my local dietician. Provided I follow their advice to the letter the weight has come off & also boosted my thinning bones. I'm healthier than I've been for a number of years,

Having just started riding my bike again 5- 10 mile rides (after 6 years ) as well as 4-5.... 2-3 mile walks / week it speaks for itself.

And now I've jsut had to get a posh new cycle helmet it's Bradley Wiggins eat your heart out!! Not bad for a 63 year old pensioner.!

    Savings over £6000.
There is an account you can get I think it is called something like a Swiss Post Office account if you have savings you want to hide, my ex has in excess of £200k in one of these & still claims benefit.
It seems to be well hidden as I have reported him & nothing is ever done about it.

I suppose the difference is being able to sleep at night Hester, your conscience is clear whilst he must have some worry that one day he will be caught. :)

Am up bright and early as my delivery will be between 7am and 11am so had to be up and ready, kids are by some miracle still asleep, which is quite nice having peace, a quick cuppa and catching up. Got last bits of yesterdays good washing on the line drying kitchen all tidied and dining room all sorted.

Car booked in to have it electric window repaired again - no charge this time as the work was only done a few weeks ago. Dad coming to do jobs in the kids rooms and finish the little house including weathervane that DS8 insisted on. Weather has become his latest craze and he avidly watches the weather report - which always makes me think of Kittie :)
