Funny meme - I was just thinking about that. The only group of people so far not affected are pensioners . Maybe its all part of their plan, to single groups out one at a time and hope the rest of the herd turn and look at them instead of the govt . First the sick and disabled, then the working poor, then the young, then those on housing benefit,So now people are expected to turn and look at pensioners, instead of fighting to stop this. It's so like the nazi way of doing things isn't it?

This is a red letter day. Every night I settle down to read all your posts, (I think you are all wonderful by the way,) and very rarely even get to the end. But tonight I'm here!

I'm also a state pensioner and just about surviving. I do have a private pension, painfully accumulated when I was a single Mum bringing up teenagers with zilch help from the ex and the money was hard to find. Thanks to a certain Mr Brown this pension is now so small that I only get it once a quarter, it's so trifling that it's not worth sending every month.

I've lived through different governments since the war and while they all come into power promising heaven on earth it's not long before they are as useless and money grabbing as the last lot, no matter what colour they are. I am determined to stay out of their clutches and to remain independent.

Every week I help at a Drop-in for anyone in any sort of need and the stories I hear every week about Job Centres, Social Services, Councils, Old Uncle Tom Cobley and All make me totter off home, thankful that I've not yet had to resort to claiming benefits. These poor people seem to be treated as if they are all cheats and scroungers. Guilty until proved innocent.
We give them a hot meal, a listening ear, clothing, sleeping bags, tents and a bag of food from our own unofficial food bank. We don't hand out money but last winter we did slip some electricity money to a couple of people whose benefits were being changed and who were given no money at all from before Christmas to the beginning of February. It makes my blood boil and I veer from kicking walls in fury to weeping bitterly for these poor folk.
It puts my moans into perspective.

I'm fortunate to be sharing a house with a friend who is still working so my contribution is to cough up my share of the food and heating and make the house a home. It comes as second nature to me to eke out supplies and make every penny count, I've had to do it all my life and don't think I could spend money thoughtlessly even if I had it, although I do get myself to sleep by working out what I'd do with a Euromillions win!

My sympathies are with the youngsters who have never had to struggle and have not been brought up, as our generation were, to actually 'make do and mend.' it's hard enough for us, goodness knows how they will cope.

Well, that's another thing crossed off my wish list - get to the end of this thread and post a reply.

    YAYYYYY.

    I agree Meme...
We respect each other and even if we have a different view we are not "Nasty" and accept other opinions...

Generally, we end up in the same place...

We have those who are struggling, those who have, those who will and we all help each other and we are not critical really of each other when you think about it.

    Great post Monnagran...
And well done for the work you are doing, rewarding but frustrating too and no doubt you take what you hear home with you and it is difficult to switch off.

    Thank you...

    Meet Bhodi - My Grand-goggie :D

Bless him! Look at those beautiful eyes! :)

One of my DD's has a 6 year old staffie, he is a big lad and as soft as clarts! Because he is big other people do get a bit hyper about him, especially when he runs, because as you know because of their chests staffies run with their mouths wide open and their tongues hanging out!:rotfl: He is called Dave and is frightened by balloons and carrier bags! He has been a very patient climbing frame for my Gdd2, who likes to put rice Krispies inside his lips so he shares her breakfast. ( And if we are not quick enough, takes them back and eats them herself! )

Lovely dogs who get a bad press because some of them have terrible owners! :(
