Welcome bossymoo :) Thank you, I'm now on the vit D case.

I am very quiet about giving my children multivitamins now. I once was scolded in toddlers by a group of mum's for giving my kids multivitamins and I felt so ganged up on. Their view was that children shouldn't need multivits if they have a good diet. Any parent giving multivits to their children must not be providing a good diet. I wasn't as strong as I am now (even then I'm not very strong when it comes to cackling women) so just kept tight lipped. I understand what they're saying but I take a different view. My kids have meat and veg daily - you've seen my meal plan. They don't eat a huge variety of veg and don't eat much in the way of fish. I suppliment my kids' diet because I worry that by not eating cauli, they're not getting a vital aspect. Apart from eggs, their omega 3 intake won't be brilliant. That's what I do it for and I don't feel like a bad mam for doing it. If I'm honest I don't really understand what each fruit and veg add to the diet so by having the suppliments I know that bases will at least be covered.

Mar I have the watermill stoneground malted blend flour from Amazon (subscribe and save) and although only made crusty buns for soup I can tell you they were delicious. (and I'm not very good at bread making) I too am looking to up my stocks via Amazon subscribe and save sometime today. Kittie's words gave me the final kick to do it.

Had a letter from Northumbian Water, they are doing work in the area between Mon-Fri and say most of us will not be affected but, yes our water may become discloured...

They cannot pin it down to a narrower time scale so today I better fill the bath with cold water(what a good job I have that bottled water in)perhaps I'll drag myself out for some more. Just in case...

Thank you for all that advice GQ...still learning as I will if/when I start to use the slow cooker...doesn't help when you lose the instructions...
:) No probs. Sometimes you can get the instructions to an appliance from the manufacturer's website, or just do a bit of general gooling such as the name and make.

I wombled a Dyson one time and found the manual online for download on their site, so I printed it off for the pal I gave the vac to. HTH. :)

Oh, and if you have a Freecycle group, someone on there might have the instructions, if you post a Wanted.

:eek: Possession - my level is 150 and the doc said that's perfect !

You've made me doubt it now, but am sure it was either 9 or 19. Oh well, was very low anyway, but I had other problems at the time like 2 knee replacements and some strange strep infection which was doing the rounds of my joints, so I didn't think too much about it. And no doctor has ever asked me to be re-tested either. The tablets are absolutely disgusting so I confess I don't often force myself to have one but I really should shouldn't I.:o

    Morning all :)

Hello Sunshine and Nellie Welcome :)

mardatha I would love the wool if no one else has claimed it please.

What a lovely new thread. I'll try not to make a mess, but my house is chaos at the moment. DH is fitting a new alarm system, which is great on one hand as it should mean no more burglaries, but it's making a hell of a mess. There is a soldering iron, two tool boxes, a stepladder, piles of wires and other piles of assorted stuff, and that's just in the living room.

Yesterday was quite dry here, but it's getting grey overhead now and looks like it's going to pee it down all day. I have to admit that it is getting me down now. I should go for a walk before it starts. I need to get a birthday present for a neighbour's son. Argos have a crane/construction set on at better than half price at £3.99 at the mo, so I think I might get that.

I went to Lidl and stocked up with minced beef yesterday, so I think ragu for dinner tonight to keep DH happy. Kittie would you mind posting your passata recipe please? It sounds fab.

Time to get my bottom in gear. Take care everyone xxxx

I have all kinds to use a deep fat fryer, two kettles, one being a rapid boil)slow cooker, food processor, toaster, the combi microwave, halogen oven. Then hardly used as yet(a smoothie maker, a fruit juicer, a mini chopper)A nicer dicer.

Fuddle, I seem to remember Vitamin D is for the Bones and a lack of it used to be responsible for rickets. It helps in many other ways either helping to stop other conditions and for keeping teeth strong. It's said that if you spend a lot of time indoors you may need to use a suppliment(Sunshine is a way to get it naturally)

Foods high in vitamin D include...
shiitake mushrooms, mackerel, salmon, herring, sardines, catfish, tuna, cod liver oil, eggs, cheese, fortified cereals, whole milk, oatmeal.

To be honest there are loads of foods(meat, fruit and vegetables)that have vitamin D so a varied diet will probably mean you are getting enough but you can get too much so you need to weigh up whether you need a suppliment.

I was skim reading the foods & read that as catfood :o I get sweetened soya milk instead of dairy milk (DS1 was dairy intolerant for years, doesn't like the taste of dairy milk & I try to keep our dairy consumption down as it does seem to affect our asthma slightly) & the soya milk we have has Vit D added to it. We do have supplements as well though - as Fuddle said, my children don't always eat a varied diet. It's frustrating when you plan a really well balanced meal & they reject part of it - DS1 is a beggar for that when I've planned a pudding like fruit crumble & custard or fruit fool, using the fruit as fruit & veg & the custard as protein from the milk. Anglian Water did 'water flushing' here last year & a couple of years before that, but did give us 1 day they planned to do it. What they also said though was that work in adjacent streets could cause problems so we had to be prepared for a few different times. I filled the kettle & all the jugs & all the sports bottles with water for drinking, kept baby wipes handy as I had them anyway for handwashing & tried to plan not to do laundry & kept washing up to a minimum. You can still flush the loo though, thank goodness. It's a pain dipping jugs of water out of the bath to do that, especially with toddlers wanting to help... But that was a few years ago.

    Morning all

Thank you for the tips about the Ikea fleeces and kilner jars from Mr S (Fuddle and PAH I think but I may have that wrong; memory shot to pieces :o)

The sun is actually shining Chez Evie today so I am abandoning plans for Ikea in favour getting some laundry done and (hopefully) dried. Partly this is because DH reacted like this - - when I mentioned my Ikea day trip idea. He thinks it would be insane as the roads are so treacherous at the moment. He probably has a point. He's still gone fishing though (clearly the roads to the lakes are unaffected :rotfl:)

I have to drive straight past a Mr S on a work trip tomorrow (there's no Mr S near home); I may find I need to "stop to use the facilities" on the way back... :D I will have a look and see if they have fleeces too. I wish we had a Mr S nearby (but given how much I like the clothes/home section it's probably a blessing that we don't!)

I have never taken multivits except when pregnant. I wonder if I ought to be, and I wonder whether the DDs ought to be as well? Especially for Vit D, as they aren't getting that from the sun at the moment. Will have to do some research I think.

Right, first load of washing sounds like it's finished - better get it out on the line in the hope of getting it dry. Back soon!

Think everybody has to google and read and then decide on own plan re vitamins.
I took D3 because if I so much as breathe in a bus then I catch a cold /chest infection/flu.
    SDG have PMed you :)
