I got a bargain yesterday at our local Asian supermarket. 20kg of broken basmati rice for £6.99. I bought two, one for ddil. Normally that would last us a year but with ds2 gone it will last a bit longer, unless he comes back.
  • ooh Grandma247 never thought of Asian supermarket, we have some in the next big town to mine, will take a look tommorow, wonder if they do spices and curry powders too...thanks thats a good tip there and I just love curries..even my own lol

    Kouzapastella,
You are welcome...How anyone really thinks that it's a great life trying to survive on welfare, I don't know where they get it from?

Well I do know, its the odd story the media manages to dig up and the mis-information put out by politicians. They say they want to make work pay(where are the living wages?)or the average wage they keep talking about being £26,000.

So if they are cutting back still further as suggested, heaven help us all. Both will be low so you are no better off in work/out of work...

And if you are able, make the most of any "Me" time you can get...I know I am because the future will be tough and I am just waiting for the letter to drop on the mat that will set the wheels in motion...

That is good, even better than Tesco's...£3 cheaper and an extra 15KG!

We don't have an Asian supermarket around here:(

Fuddle I looked at the price of skewers metal and bamboo and decided I'll see if my chicken is cooked by using a cocktail stick:rotfl:

Well, it has a good date on it(not sure what it normally sells at)so I am ok for spreads and butter for a while(I bought one of each)...Thanks for being a taste tester GK. Always looking for bargains...

It won't surprise you if I tell you it's raining again...

    I've just eaten my meal:eek:

Good job I am not going to bed yet!

I've also boiled 5 eggs to use later in sandwiches or whatever. It will give me an excuse to use my egg slicer...

They were getting near the use by date...I still have 7 not used...May give those to a neighbour...

Sorry to hear your Lucky Bag was a bit of a disappointment...

Pops, Im not here much tomorrow cos Im going out somewhere mysterious - OH's idea - so will you promise me something..when you look at the clock and see its 12 ish get up and make yourself a butty and a cuppa. Im the worst in the world for eating at reasonable times but we need to keep strong to fight the good fight

The Yum spread was £1 and most spreads with butter in are at least £2 if not more. I would love to be able to afford real OS butter as I think its better for you in moderation than all the additives in 'spreads' .. Actually I prefer to make my own but milk is never reduced in any of the shops I haunt - sorry I mean call in occasionally.

Well Kouza hunny, sounds like you joining the make do and mend thread was a good move. Write yourself a list of things you need and want, stock up food list then work your way through it till you feel 'set-up' for the weeks to come. We may not all be in exactly the same boat but we sure as hell are paddling up the same creek  You enjoy your lie in x

I promise, I used to be very good at eating throughout the day,
I'll have some porridge and fruit or cereal and fruit in the morning and perhaps toast and marmalade too.

    I hope you enjoy tomorrow...

I bought a small amount of double cream so I may have a go at making some butter...

Sorry to keep getting political I didn't used to and I hate repeating myself, I loved it when I could ignore it all...just think about nothing much at all but now it's hard not to...my nature has usually been sunny and calm. I hope that returns...

Don't give the eggs away Pops, they will be fine for ages yet, if in doubt, have a search on egg freshness test, you pop the egg in a jug of water and depending on how it sits will tell you if it's still ok to use (I can never remember the specifics but I'm sure someone on here will know or point you to a link).

I need to do some shopping today, used the last of the fresh veg yesterday and only have a couple of manky bananas left in the fruit bowl, was going to transform them into something cakey yesterday but didn't have enough sugar.

Going to have a budget talk with DH later, lots of things about to change with our finances and I need to know we both know where we're at and make a plan for the next 6 months.
