O shame, yes I guess not worth it if you are going to move.

Yes, can see now! I'm sure it was the SR flour - stick to strong bread flour and you should get a better shape. After a few goes it will just come right, then you are in bread heaven!

Just a handy note for those with kids that want the latest song - if you buy a CD from Amazon you get £1 towards any music download.

In the terms and conditions it says it ran out in June, but I bought Joan Armatrading Starlight just now as part of hubbys birthday present and received an email telling me I was entitled to the £1 so went and read up about it and as they gave dates I thought why on earth are they sending it to me now as end date was June 26th - but it does say also on the page they reserve the right to change dates, so shoved a couple of items in basket and took them to check out and sure enough the £1 has been taken off, also will let you just buy one thing for up to the £1 ( don't know if they would carry the credit over).

Not much but every little bit helps, so handy if there is a CD you plan to buy.

This site has some free manuals on how to do things like how to build a cess pit, stocking up and preserving ( that looked so good but to many pages to print that I actually have ordered a copy from Ama$on for £4.33 and its covered by my prime membership so should be here tomorrow - for impatient me I have found paying for the Prime membership has saved me a fortune in pp costs) as its now out of print.
Also how to build and use a hay box looking after animals for food, milk etc and other good books.

Its aimed at third world users but nothing to stop anyone else downloading and using them and all legally obtained.

Yeah far too much Mrs C It would take a good few years to save up that amount of money, by which time we would be moved anyway. It was just an idea that might not cost a lot. Stupid really.

    My bread:

    Can you see it now?

Oh that looks so tasty - big pat on the back...........:T

I am going to see if I can find that wheat gluten and if so have a go at doing the 5 min bread as it was the kneeding that stopped me making it by hand, although I do love my bread machine but by hand bread still tastes better.

I posted this on the renters board but do any of you know what I can do? I'm really worried about, especially the smell. :(

That does not look like mould cause by not ventilating properly - which is the only thing I could see being reasonably covered in your contract. It looks like penetrating damp and must be coming from outside or running down from a broken pipe/blocked gutter somewhere.

I would call the landlord and tell him it is not just mould and that he has a problem with the fabric of the building that needs to be sorted out. Or get OH to do it - some people think us ladies know burger all about anything and try to fob us off

Is there any way you can have a look at the pointing?
I agree it doesn't look like bad ventilation mould - I have that and it is black specky stuff. I have lived in various student properties which had similar and much worse damp problems (including lots of orange blobs on the ceiling over the bath which used to fall on top of us), but the landlords couldn't care less about those properties so I can't tell you the solution unfortunately.

fuddle you can always make a call to enviromental health at your local council and explain the situation and that your landlord refuses to accept responsibility for ANY damp. Tell them that you have small children and are worried about the health implications. They can come and inspect it for you and let the landlord know the problem isn't with lack of heating or ventilation. Letting the lardlord know that you are willing to take this step might be enough to get him to do something about it.
I second getting your DH to call the landlord and having a look when it's raining and seeing if there is any leaking guttering or any problem you can see outside.

That really does look like an inward coming damp issue Fuddle - as everyone's said, check the gutters/down pipes/ window ledges/seals etc.....see if there's anything visable. Tell the landlord what you can or can't see and suggest he come and see it or get someone round to check it out, he'll have insurance to cover anything major but if it's just a blocked gutter or some dodgy pointing its a quick easy repair.

Thanks everyone. The gutters are blocked and moss has fallen on the floor. I do think this is one for DH. I take on everything re: running the house but this is going to make me poorly with nerves I can tell. If DH's call is not successful then I will tell him to say we're going to contact environmental health to inspect. Hopefully that will gee LL on.

Write - do not call as that has no legal status. Advise that he has a problem with penetrating damp not condensation as a result of failed guttering or weather-proofing.
