I get my tabard provided free of charge as I have to wear that. The uniform is just so I fit in with the rest of the staff. At the moment I stand out like a sore thumb.

I'll look into the tax back laundering thing, thank you. DH goes through clean uniform every day too.

Fuddle theres a big piece on here about claiming it back with letter templates etc - I keep promising I will do OHs but I keep putting it off.

Oh has taken DD6 to walk in centre (I wonder if they sell season priority tickets or even of they do frequent flyer type miles ) DS8 trapped DD hand in the bedroom door, cue 3 fingers all beautifully swollen and three knuckles too! I think OH wanted me to go but as I cant tell left from right its always really difficult. One year one of the kids had the wrong leg xrayed after I got it mixed up - quite good the nurse realised the error as the proper leg was actually broken!:D

Oh I would say go for the cats if the other cat would cope if / as when he returns home.
Regarding qualifications as someone who recruits at all level including high level scientific, you need to show understanding of maths, English, and a degree gives some good evidence of being able to reason, take informed decisions. Candidates without degrees and no equivalent experience being able to show actual things done usually don't have the ability to reason, research and come to informed decisions.
However the worst culprits for demanding salaries way beyond their qualifications or experience are fresh Masters graduates in science - apparently they are worth £30k a year, fresh out of uni! Oh the look on their faces when they realise how little they know. This myth is perpetuated by the lecturers, you can earn this, given 5 to 8 years experience!

You can claim for the previous 6 years too. Do a quick check that he doesn't owe tax for those years if you are going to claim though.

If you have to wear a uniform they should provide it IMO. I believe you can claim tax for laundering it though

You beat me to it, it was mentioned on one of Martin Lewis' new ITV programmes. I believe he said it is as simple as writing a letter. It may only be £2-£3 a week but it all adds up.

As Byatt says you can backdate the claim which may benefit your OH Fuddle.

  • First - congratulations to Mr Possession, I'm really pleased things are looking so good on the job front.

And hugs to everyone who needs them. Life really is tough at the moment, and there is so little true justice around.

And now for something very bizarre and karmic! At almost exactly the same time I was posting this afternoon - it turns out that OH got a phone call at work to say that boy-cat had been found safe and well (if considerably thinner) in our elderly neighbour's garage. The neighbour's carer thought she had checked the garage when we first leafleted everyone - but he's such a wussy cat that he'd hidden when someone went into the garage, and it was only today when another neighbour went into the garage that she spotted him. So as of 5.30 this evening we have our boy back home, where he is purring and eating like it is going out of fashion:T We've now decided not to find out more about the other cats - our boy is such a nervous thing I don't think he would take it very well.

Back to making a fuss of boy-cat. Have a good evening all.

That's great news 7 week wonder!
Must admit I get very paranoid about shutting next door's cat in the garage, or running him over, as he does have a tendancy to get under your feet/wheels.

DH has had a premature celebration by buying himself a kebab. I know. Best say nothing.

7WW, so glad your puss cat is back safe and sound, what a relief for you all!

We had a cat that disappeared for almost a month, and then one unbelievable day walked up the street meowing, thin and dirty, but home!
