I used to have a lovely Roses tin, perfect for the job... until I set fire to it in one of my experiments :rotfl:

The picture of relaxed contentment... in my chair!

We lost our dog Homer last September and it was just like looking at him resting in your chair fuddle, I had to look twice and it's made me feel a bit sad, he was so lovely but sadly had cancer. Still, it's memories that keep us going.
  • pookey my DD2 also did the NCS course this summer (in a different part of the counrty) and loved it. It was a great experience for her and she got a lot out of it, they decorated a local youth club and bought new equipment for it.

Don't know what is up with me today, feel really low and have not got much done. I am glad I do not get days like this too often but do find them hard to deal with. I suppose there is always the fear of slipping back into depression again and that is a road I never want to go down again.

I made a soup for lunch today with the left over gravy and veg from the steak and kidney pie I made the other night. It was not the best soup that I have ever made but was quite tasty.

OH is sanding the bedroom so that I can do the paintwork later. I did start sanding it this morning but gave it up as a bad job. If I get it finished tonight we can move DD2 into it tomorrow and then start on the second bedroom for DD1. I really want them both done and sorted by Saturday as I am back at work after that and spare time will be a rare thing.

I went to collect DD2 from town this afternoon and as I pulled up at some traffic lights I looked into someones garden and saw the most tall burgandy flowers. I have no idea what they are called but they did put a big smile back onto my face. It just goes to show that some of the best things in life are free.

Aw homerdog, I'm sorry. I've never had a doggy before Alfie and can honestly say he's like one of my kiddiwinkles. I hope that seeing a pic resembling homerdog can help ignite some happy memories for you. I'd hate for you to be upset :(

    Hiya.

Strange that you should mention the NMW. Just this afternoon I've been chatting to a chap who told me that when he started work he was determined to be the best that he could be. He studied , went on every course going and gradually moved up in the company. Last week he was told that the firm were 'rationalising' the work force and he was being let go. Afterwards one of the supervisors told him that he had fought to keep him as he was the hardest worker he had. He was also one of the highest paid and the firm wanted to save money!
He will either be replaced with someone on the NMW or he won't be replaced at all and his work will be shared out among the rest of the staff.

This poor chap was devastated, he has a wife and 2 small children and has recently taken on a mortgage.

I could weep for people like him.

Mrs VP - sorry you are feeling low. I have felt like that for a few days but now my cold is lifting, my gloom seems to be lifting with it :T Are you sure you're not coming down with something?

Tea was remarkably painless - I had fish pie cooked last week, DS had breaded fish from the freezer with some roast potatoes also from freezer, OH had a snack as he had had lunch out and DD was with him and she doesn't want anything yet. Bit of ironing done courtesy of the archers and still nowt on telly. Torn between continuing my writing assignment or doing some knitting with last week's !!!!!!. I guess i could do a bit of both. Tomorrow's tea will also comprise of stuff from the freezer. I am determined!

My friend has been having terrible problems getting work - she is a trained accounts manager but had some time away from it. All she can get at the moment is temporary or trial jobs that never amount to anything full time. She is a good hard worker but still there doesn't seem to be anything permanent for her. Most of what she is being offered is NMW. My DD gets more per hour for her lifeguarding (but only works 2 hours per week), and she is only just 16. Friend is nearly 50.

I am busy "being useful" at work as I really have nothing to do and don't want them to think they can get rid. i think I am alright as I know that next year I'll be overworked (when we have new courses come on board) so it isn't worth their while to make me redundant. But still....

If only we could set up the toughies charitable trust.. we could help out every one who is in dire need whatever the circumstances were. I'll give you all a shout when I win the lottery. Our HQ will be the coolest around with kitchenette's, pot bellied stoves, cast iron kettles and apron and head scarves galore! I'd look forward to our AGM ;)

I get 17p per hour more than NMW. It's a sobering thought to think I have to work 4 hours to pay my uniform off.

That's me £26 down from ordering 2 work t-shirts and a sweatshirt. The girls have also said to get some flossies to wear as they are so comfy wandering around the dinner hall. Anyone know what the pickle flossies are? Shoes I think! It costs to conform!

Sorry for getting you cross Kate

I've filled in my medical questionnaire for the council house. I wrote about feeling trapped, about how it causes me worry, how my LL attitude brought on a panic attack. How the mould makes me upset. It's all true but reads so trivial. I feel really stupid for documenting it. I cope with it just fine - why should I have greater need over someone else? I'm alright. Still, you do what you have to do. Don't you? I feel, a bit like I'm making a fuss to get my own way.
:)Fuddle, I've seen people try to get medical points for acne before now. Anxiety and depression are very real even if they don't show up like a gammy leg and you were right to list them.
Afternoon, I hope everyone is not doing too badly.

Can I ask some advice? Our cat has been missing for a few weeks now, he is chipped, and we have leafleted the neighbourhood but nothing. Given that he is a complete coward and never stays out for more than 24 hours we are assuming the worst so I have cleared away all his stuff (litter tray, bowls etc) and resigned myself to having lost our wee boy . As we have always been cat people we've begun thinking that we would wait until Spring and then maybe see about getting two rescue kittens (we'd got our boy and his sister as rescue kittens). But....... I've just heard that one of my colleagues OH works at a vets and they are currently looking for a home for two 2-year old cats who have been abandoned. Most of me thinks it is too soon to think about new arrivals, but on the other hand.....

    What does everyone think?
:) I kinda think I would go for the rescue cat. It is possibe that your cat might just turn up, cats being very mysterious creatures and sometimes reappear after many years, even a decade. If the worst case scenario would be that you had him back and this prospective new cat, would it be a disaster or a struggle to afford them all?

Cats also abhor a vacuum so if there is a cat-space in your household, one may just appear to fill it and you may want to choose the new incumbent before one chooses you.:)

If you have to wear a uniform they should provide it IMO. I believe you can claim tax for laundering it though
