I think that is a real cheek as they put the box in originally, so it should be there problem to maintain it. After all it is protecting their meter!

I have a broken latch on mine. I tried to get British Gas to come and fix it, even said that their meter can sit out there and rust for all I care. But they wouldn't have it.

Usually the pipeline company to your property or the builder would have fitted it, not the supplier. Generally speaking the meter isn't the supplier's either, so they probably couldn't give a rats !!!! if it rusts.

But don't they have to replace the meter if it becomes faulty (rusts)?

travis perkins normally have shedloads of gas and elec meters in stock. I paid £68 for 1 gas and 1 elec meter box but I can't remember if this price is ex vat or not

I just had someone to come and change me gas meter but the white box is broke so they refused. Who owns the box? me, the supplier or transco? also, if it is me, what sort of price am I look at to get it replaced?

    Cheers

    Hi Toadeh..

The meter box is your own responsability,,, they are very easy to replace and you can buy them from most home DIY stores..i would call them first tho to check, since i have never bought one from them...they are usually held to the wall with 4 screws etc..just becareful not to knock the meter to hard or to rest the box onto the meter when removing it....should take you about half an hour...or someone else if you cant do it...
Hey folks...remember I might work for the company but I am a human and working in my own time, I will not responde to people who are rude, sarcy and crits me. My views and comments do not reflect British Gas and they are totally unreasponsable for my responses.

Local DIY shops do not carry supplies of these units, however there are national suppliers of parts that can be sent mail order subject to location
    google meterboxrepairs or something similar
  • If it`s gas you have to pay for it but if its electric then the distributors will do it. If I remember rightly you can get them from places like B&Q
    B&q DO NOT CARRY SUPPLIES
However there are amil order options under meter box repairs . Just google it
