Broken Meter Box

If it is outside your house and they fitted it I would say it was their problem. ( That is provided that you did not damage it yourself.)I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

Below is the advice from Wales and West Utilities, your gas supplier will be able to advise you of their policy.
Failing that contact Corgi on the freephone number they will be able to advise
Under the Gas Act 1996, the domestic meter box is part of the fabric of the property and as such is the responsibility of the property owner/occupier to ensure it is adequately maintained. All repair/replacement work is chargeable.
Please contact the meter box team directly on 02920 278637 for an application pack. The pack contains an information letter, price list and a meter box description leaflet.
There is no charge for Hinge Pins/Locks/or keys.

If you can demonstrate a meter reader broke the box, the supplier should repair it, otherwise it's down to you I'm afraid.0

My mum's lock was found to be broken last week. I telephoned her electricity supplier who told me that I had to contact National Grid, which I did, and they are arranging for a new lock to be fitted. You can get their number from the saynoto0870 site.0

Hi
I work for a energy supplier and have always been told and trained that if a meter box is broken then it is dangerous esp as exposed to the elements outsise. Call your supplier customer services who will point you in the right direction to get it repaired.
Hope this helps.

No, it was just part of the lock that was broken. The triangle bit you put your key onto to open the door had broken off, but the door was still secure - National grid have sent a replacement lock today. NOW i can read the meter!0

If it`s gas you have to pay for it but if its electric then the distributors will do it. If I remember rightly you can get them from places like B&Q0
