MSE review of Plusnet - clarification

Options
In MSE's review of Plusnet broadband, it says:
you can avoid Plusnet's £25 connection fee if you already pay line rental to BT or Plusnet and sign up by phone.
We currently use BT for phone and O2 for broadband. We pay line rental to BT. Does this mean that if we were to switch the broadband only to Plusnet, there would be no connection fee? Reading on Plusnet's site I can't find anything to substantiate that - they only mention waiving the fee if we also take up their home phone deal.

I'm not sure but is the £25 if you don't sign up for 12 months? Have you rung them to ask?

But since by signing up by online you will get a minimum of £28 and a maximum of £80 via Quidco (depending on package/tariff), signing up by phone just to save £25 would seem rather non-MSE...

  • He was taking the £6.49 deal, they phoned me in response to a message on their website and I spoke to someone in recognisable English !

I was a bit doubtful about Plusnet at first (they bought my ISP Metronet) but in my view they have been fantastic.

You will find others with, no doubt, valid complaints but personally I've been very pleased.

Other firms probably do the same but the Plusnet router I installed for the previously mentioned relative took no configuration at all.

It was the easiest IT install I've ever known.

The only down side is that in terms of facilities it isn't as good as, say, a typical domestic Netgear but for your average customer it is fine.

There is nothing to stop you using your own router any make you want, I have my own Netgear you do not have to use one supplied by Plusnet
