Laptop not waking from hibernate/sleep mode.

Hey guys, hoping someone can help me.

I got a brand new Lenovo Z575 laptop on Monday and have done all the setup's it required of itself and have now found this issue of if I put it into sleep or hibernate mode it will not wake up.

I have to take out the battery and then the charger to get it to do anything and then it has to go through the boot up process of having an instant shut down instead of shutting it down properly.

It's rather annoying and I am worried it will mess the laptop up. Can I do anything to fix this issue myself or am I going to have to send it back and get them to fix it or send out a new one.

My common sense says to send it back as it's not performing a function it should do, but my impatient side doesn't want to be without my new laptop. :o I'm also wondering if I'm being a bit dim and missing something and perhaps it's me and not the laptop. :o

Can anyone help me please :)

How are you (attempting to) wake it from hibernate?
How do I add a signature?

    Including the power button?

Don't know if this will help but it's been suggested as a fix for hibernation issues in the past:

Disable hibernation. Shutdown the laptop (full shutdown and power off, not just restart). Power back on. Enable hibernation. Test.

Yep I've tried the power button, pressing it once didn't do anything. Then I tried holding it down and the first time it managed to turn the laptop off but after that it wouldn't even turn it off or let me power back up until the battery and charger had been pulled.

I'll give the advice you've given me a try, I'll (hopefully) return soon. Thank you for your help :)

Hi I'm back. I've tried your advice and unfortunately it hasn't worked.

I have noticed tho that if I tap on the windows button and put it into sleep mode, when I press the spacebar the lights all come on fully on the keyboard and I can feel it starting to kick into action but the screen remains black. It's like it's attempting to wake but the screen is having none of it. Also when this happens the fans run quite hot and then when I get it to a normal running state they are fairly cool.

Have you checked if the wakeup is Fn+ one of the F keys ?? Symbol like a starry moon or suchlike on the F key? Or, ditch the hibernate/sleep altogether as it's never been a 100% reliable function anyway. Turn it off probably in the power settings :)

holding down the button for 6 seconds should always turn it off completely without battery removal.

use hibernate instead of sleep -

    powercfg -h off

    then

    powercfg -h on

and make sure all settings in powersaving (screen close etc) are set to hibernate, not sleep

create recovery discs, and disk image backup, in case it ever doesn't start up.

Thank you. I think I'll have to ditch sleep mode. The hibernate function is working so I can wake it from that, it's just sleep mode now.

I have done some research and it seems it's a problem for a few different Lenovo models but I can't see anyone with the same model as me having the problem. In fact one of the reasons I went with it was because someone had left a review on how fast it loaded from sleep. I'm just annoyed now that if Lenovo are aware of the issue and this is going back to last year why are they sending out laptops still with the problem. Grr.

Maybe I should stop being so impatient and send it back for a fully functioning one as that is what I've paid for.

Anyway for now I've put all the settings to hibernate so I don't accidently put it into sleep mode. What a disappointment, other than that I can't fault it as it boots so fast and gives me the power I want and it was a great price too.

Thank you again guys, I really appreciate the help. :)

I think Windows Sleep/Hibernate can be a bit flaky and very dependent on hardware. I've got an old Microstar laptop running XP and sleep/hibernate works fine so I'm leaving well alone with that one. My Dell XPS desktop running Vista used to work OK but then I changed my monitor and the computer woke up but the monitor didn't. I could sometimes get it working by pressing buttons om the monitor but not reliably. The last straw was when I replaced an HP Scanner with a Conon LIDE. The Canon documentation warns about sleep/hibernate possibly being affected. They're right. The scanner killed it completely and the computer won't restart at all. It's a complete shutdown or leave it running for me now.

I've attached nothing to it and it's all factory default at the moment, so it's something on the laptop not agreeing with the function. It's windows 7 which I have never used before, my old laptop is vista. This is the first laptop I've had a problem with so I guess I've been lucky so far.

Managed to have a fiddle with the boot order last night after work as that was suggested on the lenovo forum but that didn't make a difference either. It's like me, happy to sleep, hates waking and would much rather hibernate!
