CSJ v Skinners

  • krlyr thanks for the comparison as I've been looking at both CSJ and Autarky!

GR (and anyone else feeding Skinners) - do you find you need to feed as much as the recommended feeding guidelines?

Of the several dogs we've now had fed on Skinners, none have needed as much as is recommended for their weight (although we do tend to add a small amount of meat/veg too).

Maisie is now having a couple of tablespoons of rice added to her meal to bulk it out and I've reduced the amount of kibble a little bit as I was worried about her putting on weight, especially now she's been spayed. Or I guess it could be that Labs are prone to weight gain!

krlyr - great and very helpful comparison, very much apprecIATED.

I think Zara will stay on Skinners then.

She is back to 40kg, actually 40.2 kg - put her on a scale last time we went to the vets.

Feeding her 350gram Skinners as recommended for a 35kg dog - what she should be.....

She was donw to 35 nd now back to 40 which is a pain - the cage "rest" and lack of exercise is not helping here of course.....

Emailed Skinners, they said not to reduced to under 350g but to get her the light and senior food instead.

BUT - their light and senior is not salmon and Zara only eats salmon so no point me buying it, also she is only just under 6 so do not want to put her on seinior food....

S - Rising you have a point there, I feel Skinners perhaps should be less than their recommendation...

    Hmmmm
  • GR will she not eat anything apart from Salmon or have you never tried her on anything but Salmon?

Just curious - Ben used to get the reduced fat Wainwrights turkey one (similar to Skinners) and did very well on it ....

They do a Salmon & Potato one http://www.petsathome.com/shop/wainwright-s-light-adult-complete-dog-food-with-salmon-and-potato-15kg-87719 - more expensive than Skinners but may be worth comparing the ingredients. HTH

ETA also found I didn't need to feed nearly as much as the recommended amounts of this either!

I use the variety called "That'll Do!" from CSJ for my dogs as it's closest in appearance to the Hill's Science Plan they were previously on.

When you contact the company they give you a short questionnaire about your dog and it's lifestyle, plus any health problems or allergies, then recommend a couple of varieties of their food based on your answers.

They send you good sized samples so you can check your dog will actually eat the food before buying it.

Mine love it and I'm paying about £1 a kilo delivered (£30 for 2 15kg bags delivered) and the dogs have never been in such good condition health wise.
