Mis-sold CPP Identity protection insurance.

  • maggie, it's unlikely to have been sold to you in relation to buying a car. It was generally taken out when you started a new bank account or took out a store or credit card. The fobs are provided to attach to any type of house /car key. The serial number on the fob should bring up your policy details when you phone CPP. If not, they can search by name, postcode etc so have details of any previous addresses. They can also search under card or account number which you pay for the policy on, but card number may have changed.
Yes you can still claim providing you were missold the policy. So you either didn't agree to it, didn't know about it, or were told it covered things which it didn't.
If you ever used the policy to report lost or stolen cards or ever registered other cards onto it, then a refund of old premiums is unlikely.
However you should have received a yearly or three yearly policy renewal letter a month before any premium was debited. If you didn't receive this you may be able to claim. It is unlikely you will receive more than the last yrs premium over the phone by the agent. They don't have the ability to click anything on the computer to refund other premiums. So they will probably advise you to write in. Good luck.

Channel 4 Dispatches broadcast 'how safe is your cash' last night, which illustrated how lapse banks still are with security, how they might blame fraud on you, and how they pushed identity protection insurance even though it makes little sense for most people. It looks like Martin will have his hands full on this one, there are 5 million bank based policies sold.
  • I had two policies with CPP, one for card protection the other for Identity fraud. I have just received compensation for card protection but not for Identity fraud. I contacted CPP regarding this but was fobbed off and advised to contact Morgan Stanley regarding this. CPP stated that although the policy was purchased through CPP it was on behalf of Morgan Stanley and therefore (MS) were dealing with the claim. I have both the orignal insurance policies for card protection and identity fraud with CPP company logo clearly displayed at the top of certificates with no other company logo on the the policy. Has any one else experienced similar problems.

That's because CPP are the providers of the Insurance and is not evidence that they have any liability if it was mis-sold to you.. Any mis-selling complaint goes to the seller of the policy and I can't see it as "fobbing" you off if they have simply referred you to the correct firm you have to complain to.

  • Hello,
I have had both identity protection and credit card protection, both bought directly from CPP on a Sainsbury's credit card. I have received a claim form for identity protection but not credit card protection. I have contacted the helpline and been told that this is due to conditions imposed by Sainsburys. They suggested that I contact Sainsburys. Would this be worth a try?
