Just curious about why you want another child? Is it a yearning for a cute little baby, or is it something deeper? Because I would have thought you'd be looking forward to doing more "grown up" sort of holidays with your older children - taking them to places that would be difficult with a baby - and maybe getting a new career started.

Do you need to have 3 children? What's wrong with 2?
  • Don't forget you'll need a bigger vehicle to move around a 3rd kid.

How rude! That's none of your business. People are entitled to have more children if they want.

Depends on your definition of 'comfortable', but based on your relatively low mortgage I'd say you're in a fairly good position to do it. As far as I can tell the biggest cost for children is childcare, if you have one parent staying at home that cost is zero, so you ought to be fine.

That's a fair enough point, The reason behind it, and it may seem stupid to some, but as my DD's have different dads, I look at my youngest and think, it would be so lovely to have 2 of them in that temperment. DD1 is so easy. She's quiet, and does as she's told, DD2 on the other hand is so outgoing and a real little cutie pie (not saying DD1 isn't, just in her own little way) and I'd love to have that again.

Yes I know that I'm not guarenteed to have another "little angel" like they are, but it's worth a try isn't it? I come from a family of 3 and it was never boring. OH is a single child and was bored continuously.

I do want another one. I think If I don't I might always think what if, but I don't want to snooker us financially. :)

Oh and as for the job front, OH has been there 4 years and is very nearly near the top already. Boss keeps saying if he left they'd be screwed. OH programmes software and finances for them which has saved them millions of pounds and hundreds of hours a month. And it's in a company that people will always need (heating and cooling for large companies) so the job is hopefully pretty safe. *Touches Wood*

No chance of the cars being called back. They've just had difficulties with a sub company going under (they had to bail it out) and everything stayed the same which was good, now they are back in profit.

an 11k debt that you're paying off at 700 a month will take you no more than 2 years max, even with extortionate rates. You will then have 700 plus 600 (oh salary increase) extra per month. That's a huge jump. Even saving 250 a month for holidays (1 great one or a couple not so great) would leave you with an extra 1050 per month. More than enough for another child, or a bigger house or massive overpayment on your mortgage. our could have a third child or be mortgage free in next to no time. your choice, but its certainly double. I would wait until that 11k is safely paid off before deciding though.

Oh dear, would you not be worried about the effect on your oldest of having another as a result of that thought process?

I feel a bit sorry for her already, to be honest.

On that train of thought, every single child is an individual. My OH is one of 4 and quite honestly not one of them is in the least bit similar, personality or interests, although they do look alike.

How would you feel if your 3rd child was nothing like your other 2? That's something to think about it.
