Rice trick for wet mobile phone...Does it really work?
My blackberry fell in water, stupidly i put it in top pocket of shirt and it fell into bath when i was cleaning it out,
the front of phone fell into water,
It got wet inside phone and can see water tiny bubbles in screen, less and less now, but still there.
I have taken out battery and sim dried it off and now will leave it in kitchen on top of fridge, warm spot
I have read about the 'rice trick' to rescue phone?
Has anyone used it sucessfully?
did it work?
do i put phone back together and submerge in rice or do i keep back off phone?
Help:(

The aim of the rice trick is to dry your the phone, the idea is the rice and phone are put in a tupperware type box,the rice absorbs the moisture so drawing it out of the phone.
Will it work? 50-50 depends whats damaged, if the phone was on when it wet it may have shorted internally, and damaged a component, and rice will not fix that, if it just moisture that is causing a short then rice may fix it.
Only real way is to try it and see, all you have to loose is a bit of rice..Take the back off, battery and sim / memory cards out to allow air to circulate and so moisture to be drawn out.0 -
Kitchens typically have a high moisture level in the air so that is not the best place to leave it to try and dry it out.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

As a method to fool a warranty claim, this won't work as the rice will not reset the damp detector patches, also rust will quickly follow. It is paramount that the battery is removed and the phone not powered up whilst damp, additionally a quick squirt of WD40 directly on the PCB will often act as an inhibitor and allow the phone to carry on working, providing no shorts have fried the components in the meantime.0

I left phone on cable box last night, i have put sim in another phone and its working.
Just to add, the phone was not fully submerged in water it was just a small amount of water in bath, i was squirling around water to wash out bath.
The phone was off when i dropped it in water & I have not turned it back on since, I can see on inside of screen small dried water marks.
I figured out the water detection thingy when searching online last night, the battery is still white, but phone one is red, it has been for a while I notice the red square thing a while back and wondered what it was? It has not been in water before, but i read condensation can do that.
I will buy rice today and put open back phone and battery in rice in sealed container for the next 2/3 days and fingers crossed it will be ok.
Luckily still have my old faithful samsung which I will use for the next 2/3 days and will have to use if blackberry does not come back to life, but i have 2 more month b4 contract is up and will get new phone, so I can live with that.

A few years ago I dropped my phone down the toilet in the pub. In the morning it was a bit glitchy, but after a few days or a week it was back to working normally.
However I didn't want to ever use it again, because it had been down the toilet!
However this was in the pre smart-phone days.0
