Best International Sim Card when staying Overseas?

I will be going overseas soon but would like to have a UK number so its more convenient for others in the UK to get in touch with me. If I will be staying overseas for an extended period of time, what is the best international sim card for me to receive calls from people in the UK? I don't want them to have to pay extra fees for calling my UK number either.
I also have a UK mobile contract that I intend to keep paying even when I'm overseas. It would be best if I can keep this same number although its not necessary.
Any ideas?

Be serious. How old are you? Overseas?
Countries.
Also, who is your network provider?0 -

I am afraid I don't get your reference about overseas and what it has got to do with my age.
I have mobile contracts with Vodafone and O2.0 -

Overseas mean nothing. To which countries will you be going?
O2 now allows you to use your inclusive minutes abroad. There is a 50p connection charge and then you use your inclusive minutes to make calls. To receive calls, the same 50p connection charge applies and the first 60 minutes are free.
The service is available in Andorra; Austria; Belgium; Bulgaria; Cyprus; Czech Republic; Denmark; Estonia; Finland; France, Monaco; Germany; Gibraltar; Greece; Guernsey; Hungary; Iceland; Ireland; Isle of Man; Italy, Vatican, San Marino; Jersey; Latvia; Liechtenstein; Lithuania; Luxembourg; Malta; Netherlands; Norway; Poland; Portugal; Romania; Slovakia; Slovenia; Spain; Sweden; Switzerland
That is why 'overseas' means nothing at all.

thanks the cost is not too much if I don't use it much. Its more convenient than getting a new sim.0

Call Customer Services to turn off your Voicemail before you go abroad, so that you do not end up paying for messages that people leave, if you don't want that to happen.0

If you are going to Australia / New Zealand can use the vodafone passport to recieve / make calls whilst you are overseas.

for middle east, asia, usa, Russia, Africa, Caribbean, Brazil etc. this most likely be the best option

The worldsim (if you do not get it on offer like from kgbdeals) will cost £39.99 for £10 credit. And to keep the sim active they take £1 a month from your credit, but good card to have for international roaming even at £1 a month.0 -
NB the worldsim uk number is the isle of man number, o2 number diverted to it, will use inclusive minutes you have on it, so can get ppl to call your o2 number so they do not pay a higher charge for calling u.0
