TV License question

My gf and I moved into our apartment at the end of September last year. Its the first time either of us have had out own place (we both previously lived with our parents). Am I right in thinking that you pay your first years TV license over 6 months, then pay 6 months in advance / 6 months in arrears??
We paid our first license by debit card so it went out all at once, but I'm pretty sure we need to renew for next year now, although I could be wrong.
Any help would be appreciated!!

I pay mine quarterly
1st april
1st july
1st october
1st january
just divide the whole bill by 4 and then add £5 for admin, it was £34.14 for me this year, works out better for me this way,
cw
that's every 3 months
Pls be nice to all MSer's

Thanks for the advice, but doesn't really answer my question. I'm not asking for the different ways to pay. I'm asking for confirmation that you pay for your first TV license over 6 months (even though its valid for a year), then pay 6months in advance / 6 months in arrears towards each year after? For instance, if my theory is correct, we paid for our first license last September, now although the license is valid until August, we should start paying towards next years now (i.e. 6 months in advance). Then, the 6 months after August will be our payments in arrears. This then starts all over again for the next year, and so on.0 -
yes you are correct, but normally you pay the whole in 5 months then they spread next years bill out over the next 12 months so that you are always 6 months ahead with your licence, timberflake wrote: »Thanks for the advice, but doesn't really answer my question. I prefere it the way I do it, as have been doing it that way for years and 34.14 once every 3 months is better for me than every month,
I have my final payment for my licence this year on 1st april then I'll get another licence sent to me sometime in june, which will explain how much and when they are going to take payments for my bank, then the next payment will go out on 1st july but back to your Q yes they do 5-6 months whole bill divided by 5-6 payments then 6 months-12 months whole bill again divided by 12 payments,

your first licence is paid until September .You can wait until Sept for your next licence .timberflake wrote: »My gf and I moved into our apartment at the end of September last year. The 6 months in advance /arrears really only applied if you pay by direct debit .0 -

But what about if we paid for the frist one by debit card and now want to pay by DD??0 -
If you want to start paying monthly by direct debit, you don't need to apply for a new licence until you old one is running out.
Then you can either call them up (the phone number is probably on your license) or go to the website and fill in the online form here: https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/directdebit/dd_step1.jsp
You will then have to pay for your first year within the first 6 months (currently £131.05 over 6 months, this would be £22 per month). In month 7 you will start to pay for next year's license at about £11 per month -the payments will then continue at this amount (obviously, this will go up when the cost of licences increase), so you will always be 6 months in advance.
If, for any reason (eg you move in with someone who already has a licence) you no longer need your licence, you can apply for the money back that you have already paid in advance.0 -
