SKY TV and RIP OFF Community Vision

I own a flat in a development of flats – 2 blocks have 6 flatseach and 1 block with 4 flats.

I recently purchased a sky package, Sky TV, Telephone and Broadband. Sky informed me that installation willbe simple as there is already a shared dish on my block of flats.

The sky man came out to install the sky TV, but he then saidthat the dish already on the roof is not one of theirs and he cannot connect meto it.

After investigation I find that a company called “CommunityVision” own the dish and the other dishes on the other 2 blocks of flats.

In order for me to have sky I have to go through CommunityVision. Meaning I have to pay the following:

1. A one of payment of £300 installation/setup fee

2. £75 per annum Line rental charge

3. Monthly Sky package subscription fee

On querying this with Sky, sky turn round to me and say thatthey can install a shared dish on the block of flats for a one of cost of £180plus the monthly subscription fee.

I then go to the estate management who then turn round andsay that community vision has the rights to the roof space and sky cannotinstall a shared dish and I cannot instruct sky to fit a single dish for myuse. This is the same for the 3 blocks of flats.

Has any else been in this situation?

Has anyone got round this situation?

Has anyone got any advice?
I only have half my package that i've paid for as i refuse to pay the cost to CV.

Thanks!

It's the same for every dwelling that has a community dish fitted,Sky cannot fit anything and any work must go thru the management company to the company responsible for the maintainance of the system installed.
If you are wanting Sky+ that requires two separate feeds & only one is in place, then the engineer can install a basic single feed box or a Sky+ with the second feed turned off but he cannot run another feed from the dish nor interfear with anything installed apart from connecting the box up to the existing feed.

So are you saying there is no way round this?

it seems rediculous to have to pay £300 plus £75 pa line rental when sky will fit a shared dish for £180. This will then enable all the current residents and new residinets to be able to go to sky direct and just pay their fees.

Afraid so,you'd really need to look over your agreement with the estate managers & see if the's a clause in it to allow you to do this, nut you'll more likely find that part of the agreement between the management company & this “CommunityVision” company is that the latter handle all maintainance, supply of service ect for x amount of time.
I've been to installs like your in the past that I've not been able to do because of these problems.

But you forget that Communityvision has done a deal with the estate managers, presumably its part of your leasehold agreement.
    Could you get cable?

I'm surprised that this wasn't documented when you bought the flat.

Let this be a lesson to anyone else buying. Make sure you know what services are available, what restrictions apply and what it's going to cost.

I expect that a Sky shared dish would use the cheapest cabling method, and send cables down outside walls which would need agreement from everyone whose wall was traversed.

The Communityvision system may use ducting internal to the building hence the expensive install. Even if the satellite cable is already in place Communityvision would have installed it at their cost in the past and will want to recoup the cost including any financing they use to support their prospective business.

Agreed that you are highly unlikely to be allowed to arrange a Sky install when there is an agreement in place for a communal satellite system.
