I don't see how we can possibly conclude this without seeing the warranty documents. The terms of the warranty are dictated by the manufacturer and/or retailer, not by some 'standard' rules.

It's not rare (albeit uncommon) for products to be listed as 'Warranty until x date' rather than '1 year warranty'

Oh we can definitely conclude that it runs from the date of purchase, not from the date of manufacture. Where a product is listed with a 'Warranty until date X' that is where the product has been purchased by a consumer prior to them selling it to you.

e.g. someone buys a new car, sells it on ebay/used car sales man, car is then listed with 'the remaining balance of manufacturer warranty'.

Can you provide examples of this so called 'warranty until date' on a previously unsold, brand new products? I've never seen it.

AT the end of the day, the laptop is under one year old, it should have been instantly replaced by Argos, the OP should not be speaking to HP about anything.

At the end of the day...I suggest you read up on consumer rights before posting misleading statements such as the above.

Perhaps you should read up on the Sale of Goods Act.

I have! You clearly read a different one to everyone else in the country.

Please point me to the place where the SOGA states, and I quote..

Instantly replaced... what are you smoking? I want some!

They shouldn't have to do anything of the sort. If you're going to advise on consumer rights, at least make sure you're not spouting rubbish.
