Oxford County Council -blue badge problem

Ok, I'm not saying I don't sympathise with your situation and either I'm being very dim, very naive or missing something blindingly obvious..
but how does not having the blue badge make you a prisoner that you have to rely on taxis or other people?
I thought this too!Because although I am disabled I am independent.
With the blue badge I can park my own car very near a shop either on double yellow lines or with a disabled bay whenever I want.
Without a badge I will have to wait for a lift/taxi, get picked up and dropped at the shop(s) I need. Without it I can't simply park in a general park away from the shop(s) I need.
Your response is very insightful and I might have reacted the same myself until I lost my mobility a few years ago.
The blue badge lets me get out and about in my own car, when and where I want, very near to the place I have to park, so without it I am reliant on others to take me, drop me off and collect me.

Vigman
You could rephrase the bold sentence as "so I can dump my car wherever I please, regardless of the inconvenience to other people".Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £19,575.020 -
We got a renewal blue badge 2 1/2 weeks ago just before old one run out end of June I applied for renewal about 3 weeks before and they sent a letter to say that they wont send a new badge until about a week before old one ran out. My daughter paid £10 for it supplied with new photo. We also funny enough going away next week I am also sorting out a wheelchair for her when on holiday0

That is more a comment on the lax definition of disability than anything else.
FGS Nearly 20% of the population is classed as disabled and nobody thinks there is a problem with that or how it is defined?
I suspect the reason for the high number is due to the fact we have an ageing population. A high number of the 10 million disabled will be people over 70.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I cannot comment on the OP, but many people qualify for a disabled badge because they have a serious difficulty walking very far. When you are fit you do not always realise that others:
(a) Cannot walk as far as their nearest bus stop
(b) Cannot walk from a bus stop to where they want to go.
(c) May be comfortable ambling around a store on level ground but are vulnerable/liable to fall when on uneven ground or in windy conditions
All I think the poster means is that he can drive but its no use to him parking a long way from the place he wants to go to. Nobody would defend abuse of the privilige of having a blue badge but equally nobody would choose to be in the position of qualifying for one either. Do you still have the badge that is due to run out? If so just use this and display the letter confirming renewal alongside. Quite probably only the idiot PCC's will try and invoice you for not having "exactly" the right document.
Even 5 years ago the OCC Blue Badge department was very busy and with staff cuts and a higher workload am sure it is worse today.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0 -

There may be some connection although age of itself does not make you "qualified". The real reason is that in the past GPs and others have been too willing to support applications.
The new system involves independent assessors which should reduce the numbers. That said its not been implemented very sensibly. It makes sense to raise the bar for those who self refer or have a difficult to prove medical consition. Assessing 90 year olds with a well established, documented and qualifying medical conditions makes no sense whatsoever.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. This is poor advice.Mrs_Arcanum wrote: »Do you still have the badge that is due to run out? If so just use this and display the letter confirming renewal alongside. Quite probably only the idiot PCC's will try and invoice you for not having "exactly" the right document.
.
An out of date badge is now very likely to be prosecuted. A letter of application does not prove continuing entitlement to have a BB. In fact the new assessment process is specifically intended to weed out applications from those who have badges but do not meet the current qualification rules.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Yes why not the parking attendant can then issue a failure to display a badge in a disabled bay to one car and an obstruction of the highway to the other.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. So many times I pull up to a full disabled bay only to see boy racers get in or out of the car with no badge displayed.....I have to drive off and miss out on that shop just because of their laziness!

We all see this happening and I agree its frustrating but its also easy to make unfair judgements.
Sometimes there is a badge but you do not see it. The boy racer might not be the badge holder but may have come to meet someone who is for example.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment.
