Plusnet may be restricting your speed

Having the current line speed set too high would not affect things the way you are seeing. What would happen is that if you were trying to do gaming, watch streaming, use VoIP at the same time as downloading the traffic management wouldn't work properly and the downloading might affect other things - but is wouldn't slow down the total traffic on your line.0

I live in rural Lincolnshire. I carried out all the tests and discovered that I have exactly what I should be getting, except that my Upload is low at 0.5. I have Plusnet FTTC and before we had that service in our village, I had the highest speed at <2Mb, with an ISP that would not look at improving my service and would not believe that we were going to get FTTC. Now my Upload rarely goes below 8 Mb and on one heady occasion, it was almost 10!
I have contacted Plusnet by phone and in the Forums. I have never had less than full, courteous answers from knowledgeable support staff. I think that the support may be slightly better, (perhaps due to being faster in response) from the site, at least that is how I found it. I am prepared to believe that this is not true for all Plusnet customers, however I can only speak from my own experiences.
I would of course like the mega-speeds that users receive in towns and cities supplied by FTTHome (cable) but I would not want to swap my lovely village home to get it. If you don't live in a cabled area, it's something you have to consider. I know of one family who moved back to a town they said that they had 'hated' to live in, just to get the speeds they had.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
