Car Insurance Scam

How do I find out if someone is using my address and details in order to get cheap insurance by having me as a named driver? Also could I find which insurance company they have used?

What makes you suspect that this has happened?

If they are using your address the paperwork would show up sooner or later.

If its just a named driver then i doubt you can find out.

Unless the company did a search on your credit file?

This is a good little business I thought of a good while back. 30yr+ people with 6+ years no claims offering to be used as a named driver on another car with a higher risk policy for a small fee. Someones beaten me to it by the looks of things.

There was a Latvian lady doing this in London three years ago- she even advertised the service in a UK Latvian language paper. Churchill's fraud dept was on the case and uncovered over 300 policies that she had done this on at £100 a go.

I like the sound of her already. I wonder at what point churchill and the like draw the line between acceptable and taking the p*ss.

Why is this fraud? If a 'named driver' on someone else's insurance policy never actually drives the car in question, how does that make it fraudulent? Would is cease to be fraudlent if the named driver just drove the car once each year, even if it was only for a few yards down the road??

Suppose in the same way having a main driver who will never drive the car to make premiums cheaper. Never stopped me mind.

IMO, adding a named driver should make insurance go up rather than down, but no doubt I'll get shot for that too.

    Paranoia perhaps?

Who knows with a brand new, one time only poster that gives such little information.

some companies are now cracking down on this sort of thing. my past 2 insurance companies actualy base their premium on the driver with the higher risk. only reason i found out was because i was removing my ex MIL and asked why the price didnt change. i think thats the way it should be. regardless of who is named, on the policy, the accident is more likely to happen when bein used by the higher risk
