private company ticket but i wasnt there

Hi all. this is my first post here. Am hoping someone can help.

Yesterday I got a letter through the post from Gemini parking solutions, claining that I had not ticket and was parked in a Harvester car park in Woodford Green. It's for £85!

The thing is, I live in west London. I can't even drive to Woodford Green because I'm too scared to drive that far! On top of that the whole day I was at home. I didn't leave the house. and the car was parked outside the whole day too.

I called them, explained the situation and asked if they could send me pictures they have and was told that I need to appeal in writing first.

I've read on this site that I should just ignore it. But I spoke to the police woman and she told me to write my appeal. Confused!

Hope someone has some advise.

Ignore it is the usual advice in these circumstances.

I'm afraid now of getting a court case against me.

And how can they have images of my car on their database if I wasn't there?

You are taking these muppets to seriously. Most likely reg.number put in wrong.

    They don't do court

Private parking tickets are nothing to do with the police. Do NOT write to them.

They could have misread a number plate, or they could just be inputting random numbers hoping someone will send them some money. Its a scam. Either way you will not be going to court.

Ignore them and they will go away.

When I called the company I asked her to describe my car.. and she did. That was quite weird. Stupid companies.

I will ignore it and try not to worry. I'm a little bit of a worrier. So that may be hard. But I will try.

    Thank u guys.

The poliuce woman is probably as clued up on this as most other people out there.
Ignore is a good choice, however if you feel harrased by it all (ie the threats ) you can fight back.

Not really that weird. Your car was originally registered by the main dealer that sold it into the market. It was probably registered amongst a batch of others of the same make - and quite likely - the same model. So, registration numbers of similar makes/models could well be very close together.

Don't worry. You can prove you weren't there and if it ever came to the push the photos they claim to have will show that it isn't your car.

The whole purpose behind the demands these companies send out is to frighten people into paying them. They are not the police nor are they a local authority and have no right to fine anyone ever. They have simply sent you an invitation to pay them. Ignore them. They have no legal power and they have no evidence.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

There are many online car parts dealers and such that if you input a reg number a cars details will come up.

Even if it was your car simply ignore them.

The reason they knew the car is probably because they looked up its details from the registration.

(I saw a traffic warden out the other day who took photographs of cars he was ticketing, and their location. That would have been evidence, as opposed to a mis-transcribed number plate.)
