    They need to be a 5 point harness and have a way of using the airline lap belt to fix the rear facing seat forward facing. Our Graco had C shaped slots on the back (like you use to feed the lap part of a car seatbelt through for rear facing) which were used for this and we used it with several different UK and US based airlines without incident. On one UK based airline a friend couldn't use their seat for take off/Landing as it was only a 3 point harness.
