Partner going halves on decorating

I'm assuming you'd be splitting the bills between the two of you. If the decorating etc cost £6000 and you paid £3000 each and you split up after a year it's only cost him £250 to "live there" got to be cheaper than his rent now? For example if you did split in 10 years would he have £3000 back or would it be with interest?
I can see the point of it, don't get me wrong, but how will future updating/decorating/improvements be dealt with. Like someone else said the kettle breaks, who will pay and will things like this get added to his agreement incase you break up. Or if you decided to give the hallway a lick of paint will there be another written agreement? And at what point will this end? I mean if you're together in 50 years you could have one very long legal agreement!:j Baby boy arrived 22nd August 2012 :j

Paying into a household fund can get round this.
Who pays how much into it each month is another minefield - equal shares, percentages?0 -
So glad I only lived with a partner when I had found the one I wanted to marry! We both had a house so that was complicated but I never charged him rent. We rented out his house and saved the rent money towards our wedding. I'm not old fashioned but I just dont see the point of living with someone unless they want to commit to you.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0
