Tesco car insurance - anyone used?

  • Of course not available in Northern Ireland :(

I did point this out to them, but they still have large signs for their car insurance in Northern Ireland branches and also post flyers to their NI customers.

Usually move insurance every year to find the cheapest but for the past 2 been with Tesco's. No claims made yet (thank the lord!). Coming up to renew in 1 months time and if no-one can get near quote from Tesco will be with them again!

Tesco, Direct Line, and Egg insurance are all run through UK Insurance. The cover and quotes is often identical through all three sites, and the process used to get a quote is exactly the same!

The trick is, to find which one of the three is offering the best special offer deal. Currently Egg win hands down, matching the Direct Line and Tesco Quote, and then giving £30 cashback if you have an egg card.

My husband got a lease car through his own company last year and we had shenanigans to insure it as it was in the company's name. We originally were insured through e-sure, but then they said unless the car was in his personal name it couldn't be insured by them. Tesco had no problem with this and we pay them monthly a very good price, so far we have had no claims, but we also have joint breakdown cover with them which we have used twice and has always been brilliant. I'd have no problem with using them again.

Tesco were the cheapest quote for my daughter's car when she passed her test a few months ago. As she is 17 and still at sixth form I was paying, she has no credit card anyway. When I put my card info in the site came back with an error message so I called the number as instructed. I spoke to a chap who implied I was trying to commit fraud by paying for my daughter's insurance, she had to pay for it with her own card. So I said she is 17, she doesn't have a credit card and I am paying for it so why can't I use my card? In the end I had to transfer money to my daughters account and she set up a direct debit as they wouldn't accept a cheque either. (?)

Not had a claim thankfully but the deal included breakdown cover and she has used that, good fast service.

I insured my car with Tescos last year as they came out the cheapest by a fair way (after all that tedious and endless shopping around!)
I just got my renewal notice from them and so went through the checking everywhere else again only to find that Tesco were still the cheapest by far - even Privilege were £20 more, but as they claim in their TV ads to guarantee to beat your renewal quote, had to very reluctantly say they would agree to beat it...but only by 22p! Big deal
So I'll stick with Tescos, the most competitive of all the quotes I had and some by a long way. Never had to make a claim though so can't speak for that side of things.

Hubby is insured through Tescos and I am named driver on there as well.

They are where really good when we had accident last year and the car was a write off. Took about 2 and bit weeks for the cheque to arrive. We where lucky to have the money to be able to go and buy another car straight away though.

We finally did get the last little bit £100 out of them last month. So that was 6 months. But it was not there fault as they where arguing with the other blokesn insurance.

Hubby has kept his insurance with them for the next car he had.

I changed to Tescos because they were cheap. I have recently had to claim and have found that they have caused me no end of problems and it has been causing me quite a bit of distress.

I'm sure that with all companies you get good and bad experiences but if you know of another company who has a good reputation and the quote is very similar, then I would probably go with them.
  • Tesco's have been the cheapest for the past 2 years. I've had no problem with their service either.
