Hello,
Has anyone used Tescos car insurance? Any problems?
I just got a quote from them and it is £20 cheaper than any others. Includes 5% discount. Not sure if they are any good though... next best is privilege (which is basically direct line by £15 cheaper). There is also a promotion box but I don't know of any...
Tescos wasn't part of the confused.com quote or moneysupermarket but was cheaper than any I got through those.
Thanks in advance.

Hiya,
I've gone with Tesco car insurance this year as my brother recommended them.
He wrote off his car last year and said they were great sorting it all out for him - really quick and helpful too. :T0 -
I had to make a claim back in January and had so much hassle with them just to inspect my car, it took over 6 weeks of me phoning and complaining. Apparently the inspections kept getting cancelled and no-one knew why! Lots of other quibbles too. The garage who held my car couldn't believe the way i was being treated.
Eventually the problem was resolved after 2 months and I sent a complaint letter and asked them to waive my excess fee to compensate me - this they did.
I guess with any company you will get those with good experiences and those with bad.0 -
My mum took out car insurance via Tescos not long ago after I suggested they got a quote through them. They were the cheapest at the time (I haven't requoted for them since).
Since taking out the policy my mum had an accident, and my mum says they have been fantastic. They couldn't be more helpful. Always phoning her to check if everything was satifactory. Offered her a courtesy car, has the number plate replaced straight away so she could still use her car until the courtesy car arrived (the car was booked in to have the work done, but she preferred to use her car until the car went in for repairs). The care was fixed promptly and came back cleaned inside and out. Since having her car back, Tescos have called her a further couple of times to check she is ok (no whiplash injuries showing) and to check that she felt the service she received was ok.
Obviously this is just my mums experience with them, and I'm sure some people have have problems, as with all companies... however, I think it proves that they have the systems/structure in place to offer a good service, if at least most of the time, for most people.. ;-)

have used tesco before but never claimed. Find the rate v. competitive. Also try elephant as they can be close or better on premium basis.0

Hi, I used Tesco last year, and luckily didn't have to claim, however, upon renewal they were more expensive than Elephant.co.uk and therefore I changed. This was where the problems came in for me. Firstly, they were VERY reluctant to send me the details of my no claims bonus (10 years) and when they did they only put down 5 years!!.
When I phoned to get it rectified I was told it was thier policy to only give a max of 5 years as this is all that counts - obviously I argued that the fact was I had 10 years and had told my next company this so from my point of view Elephant would think I had mislead them. The outcome was after several weeks of arguing with ever more snotty staff, they issued me with another letter stating I had 9 years!!!!.
I was lucky that at this point the staff at Elephant called them direct and they confirmed verbally that I did indeed have 10 years.
So I would NOT recommend them for thier aftersales service at all.0 -
From my understanding Tescos is also direct line!
Was insured with them twice but moved to elephant twice too as they were cheaper on renewal, however elephants T&C's are not to good and I didn't rate their customer support! Each time I changed details on my policy (i.e.. change of address , change of car) they made a complete mess up! Again I then found tescos cheaper on renewal.
Sticking with privilege / Tescos now!0 -
Tesco is indeed the same as DirectLine. I've used them for a few years, had to claim once, no problems.0

Ive been with Tesco's for years - always the cheapest but, touch wood, I have no idea about their service!!!!!! Very easy renewal - they write to you and if they dont hear to the contrary they just carry on!
I understand ALOT more than I care to let on
