Speeding Notice - Limehouse Link
Hi all,
I received this notice today for allegedly doing 36 mph in a 30 mph zone. The reason for going 36 mph was because my mother, who I care for, is disabled and was having a panic attack, thus I was rushing to get home. I know it's not an excuse for speeding but I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on what to do?
This is my first offence, only passing my test April last year so I'm still within the "6 points, lose your license" zone. I always try to be careful with my speed so this has really bummed me out.
I've read a few threads around the web and most people say to ask the MET for picture proof to help identify the driver and in most cases they can't do this so drop the case. Others say when they can prove who was driving, the case usually gets dropped if you ask to see video evidence.
So I'm really not sure what to do, if anyone can give me some advice I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks.

At this stage they are only asking you to confirm who the driver was. As the owner it is your responsibility to know who is driving you car. To avoid getting 6 points I would return the form naming the driver at the time.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

At that speed they should be offering a speed awareness course ( assuming they do offer that in the Met). If that is offered grasp it with both hands as it will mean no points on your licence.
Edit. It looks like the Met do offer one as I found this:-

The best advice I can give you is 'slow down' I'm sure you will think twice about it now, sometimes its a good thing, it's a wake up call.
Hopefully you will get a speed awareness course offered whiich you will have to pay for but its better than points and a hike in your insurance premiums.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that you aren't offered the speed awareness course within 12 months of passing you test.... But I may be wrong.
I would say that you were driving the car that day, but don't believe you were speeding and ask for video evidence of you speeding.
See what happens!0 -
its an offence not to declair who was driving it hence them sending you that letter, by desputing who was driving would be the wrong way to go about it, especially if your the sole named policy holder and registered keeper.
by allmeans ask them top provide video/Photo evidence of your alleged offence your looking for "timed out" on the bottom of the hoto of video if you see this then go onto court with a solicitor. if not then take the SAC if offered one or take the three points, then youll be three points down next time your out and have to take test again if caught again before april.0 -
You have been asked to name the driver.
Unless there may genuinely have been someone else driving, don't say you need the picture to identify the driver.
Speeding is a minor offence.
Refusing to name the driver is a more serious offence
Attempting to pervert the course of justice is a very serious crime indeed, which usually results in a prison sentence, even if the original offence was a minor one.

Timed out will be six months. Do you think the op can drag it out that long?
He isn't entitled to any evidence until he pleads not guilty. By doing that he risks losing out on any course.0
