Am i entitled to refund on school trip

I have paid £205 for my daugther to go on a school trip to france. Two weeks ago they told her see could not go after she had a disagreement with a teacher. I would like to no if i am entitled to all or some of my money back. The school are being unhelpful, left 3 messages for call back from deputy head and still waiting.

Had you cancelled the trip, I would have said No.

But since they cancelled it (because of your daughters bad behaviour) then you may have a chance.

Why not ring the school and make an appointment with the head via her secretary.

  • If you paid an initial deposit then you may not get that back but I don't see why you would not be entitled to a refund of the rest. If you don't get any luck via telephone I would suggest a letter may hold more weight. Let us know how you get on.

Sounds like a bit more than a disagreement if the school don't want her on the trip -but only the school can answer your question

Then stop waiting and be proactive.

Why not visit the school if phone calls are not working?

While you are there, make an appointment, as others have suggested.

Unless you have explicitly agreed to some clause which your daughter has breached, of course you are entitled to your money back in full and without delay. You need to decide first of all which would be best - a refund or having your daughter reinstated on the trip.

It is now time to stop leaving messages and to write letters with stamps or hand delivered - keeping copies.

Assuming you would rather she go to France, you should ask them to confirm in writing within 7 days that she is still going to France otherwise you will take action to recover money paid so far.

Any such clause would invariably considered unfair. The school would be within their rights to ban her from the trip for any reason, but not to withhold any monies paid.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

A clause which permitted the school to exclude a pupil in conjunction with another which charged £15, say, in the event of the booking being rescinded for any reason, might not invariably be considered unfair. It could be a much harder fight. Hence my caution.

There is very often a behaviour clause attached to school trips. If that was on the letter you have signed giving permission, and it said non refundable in that event because the monies would have been paid across to the third party then you may not be entitled to a refund.
