B&Q 'No Rucksack Policy'?

Just wonder if anyone else has been hit by this?
I was in my local store yesterday, just checking prices, sizes and weight capacities of various bits for some shelves & a desk. I had to walk past two or three members of staff as I entered: none of them busy, all of them saw me, none of them said anything. As I was browsing another employee came over and told me they have a no rucksack policy, and I'd need to leave my bag at one of the checkouts. When I tried to protest that I wouldn't be prepared to leave my bag (a £50 pannier for my bike, and containing my iPad, passport and new bank account details - not stuff I'd be inclined just to leave with anyone); it was immediately clear she was entirely disinterested and I ended up just leaving and going to wickes instead.
Don't they want customers?

I'm guessing they thought you looked a bit dodgy and they worried you were going to nick something.

I would complain to the head office about it.

I highly doubt that this is company policy

I did wonder. But it's not like I was dressed up like a chav. Shorts & t-shirt.

So only people dressed in a Chav manner can look dodgy. Interesting concept

It's a new one on me. I have 2 local B&Q branches that I use, and I often wander around with a rucksack on my back. None of the staff have ever stopped me.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

They do not do it anymore but I can remember the days when Toys R Us would not let you take any carrier bags in with you. They had to be checked in at the Customer services desk.

Never heard of this in B&Q though.

    Really?

They stopped it years ago in ours but I have not been in for a while so they may have started it up again.

This happens in our local shoe warehouse, bags must be left at customer service desk. Anything valuable is locked away
