nabo

Hi first time on this site,
can anyone tell me if they have heard about "the nationwide alliance of business owners" they are offering free accomadation, meals and refreshments for attending a seminar on marketing. Worried it might not be above board. thought if any one out there has any experiance of them they could let me know if it is safe to attend.

I have never seen them mentioned before on MSE: people are usually referred to their local chamber of commerce.

I would be suspicious of something that is free - they may try a hard sell to get you to take up a membership.
I'd agree with all of that: I wondered if it was just me who'd never seen them mentioned on MSE but clearly not!

Chaps/chapesses Thanks for taking the time to answer. You have said what i did feel. Nabo keep talking about networking and Marketing which are two parts of business that are inportant. So glad i put it on the forum as i now feel confident in ignoring them. I totally feel there would have been a hard sell and them trying to break my resistance, but i had not thought of that. Great and big thanks for your input

There is a danger though - that you will get addicted!

    You're right: loads of them!

As Missy said, NABO = the Nationwide Alliance of Business Owners, and there's a main website for the NABO organisation, but if you take Google's top dropdown suggestion (once you've got as far as entering nabo in the search box) it's nabo networking.

This search term produces an explosion of results, pages and pages with URLs which include names of towns and cities over the country, reflecting the various groups which (apparently) have been set up there.

Didn't really want to visit any after Paul's virus experience! - but there are a few clips on YouTube too. Here's one:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqszD9Dg6cg
and after Paul's post I had to smile when the guy drew what he called first a triangle and then an 'iceberg'. In other YT results shown at the side you'll probably see a couple more vids from local groups.

You have to go much further into Google's results to find anything written about NABO, as opposed to by them or their members or group directors. It was p18 before I found this forum thread from 2010/11:
http://www.4networking.biz/Forum/ViewTopic/68079 which starts much like this one, with someone asking if anyone knows anything about it. Then there are some positive posts -- but read on. There's also a snippet about who's behind it (the guy in the video).

Hmmm, I think I recognise the poster on there who was originally positive then saw the light. I think they are a regular on here.
