halifax euro mess

I didn't say it was the customers fault, i said the bank was reliant on royal mail or securicor delivering on time, if they don't thats not the banks fault. Also had you said she ordered it 4 days ago thats a different matter as the order should have been put to one side when the order came in and not relied on that mornings money coming in. But if they couldn't get her the euros then they should have given her the money back.
Yes totallybored she only wanted 350, but what about all the other customers that wanted currency if they all ordered for the next day and only a certain amount of euros comes to the bank each day then on occasions you can run out and i know you will say they should have more in stock, but its not that simple, the euro rate is quite volatile at the moment so most currency places will be keeping a tight rein on euros incase the rate drops quickly or rises quickly.0 -
I work in this business, and if someone pays for it online, it is our guarantee that when the customer comes in on the day specified to collect money, then it will already be there.
As soon it comes through on my screen, I pack the currency straight away. I never want to run out of Euros or U.s Dollars, but the currency that the customers have already paid for online is the priority. During such a busy time of the year, checking stock is vital, but there should be no excuse, as there is an option for a delivery almost everyday. Royal Mail do deliver, but there is obviously restrictions and limits to the amounts.
There are guarantees on the time when when delivered by van, and it always turns up, it's a guarantee. What I'm trying to say is, furthermore, Halifax have messed this up. Like someone says next time just go in a supermarket and do it.0 -

bank says pick euros up on Tuesday
Customer goes to pick euros up on Tuesday
money not there on Tuesday
Can't get money back of bank to get euros from elsewhere
= customers fault
ps she actually ordered them on-line 4 days before she was due to pick them up
but as was obvious in post #1 it doesn't matter whose fault it is, she didn't get the Euros to go on holiday with, and had no Plan B. Bank of mum & dad to the rescue! She's also learnt a lesson in risk analysis and (hopefully) mitigation. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

But Halifax SHOULD have refunded her in the branch, on the spot.
Refusing to do so is bonkers.
They are a bank after all.
Hold on....that makes them bent, doesn't it!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

I'm not sure why a plan B should be needed. She used the money that she had to order her euros, not everyone has an extra stash just in case the bank don't deliver when they say they will
I think it does matter who is at fault0 -
Exactly no plan B was needed. She got them in plenty of time. Some of the responses on here are quite insulting to the OP. I serve people who are going down to Heathrow or across to Manchester in a couple of hours etc. They paid for the service and the guarantee is there that currency will be ready for you.
Seems to me like a very poor show from Halifax here.0 -

I sympathise with the OP's daughter as I was young once as well. Now I'm older and have no excuses, I always make sure I have a plan B. Lost travellers cheques, bank card refused, cash in a safe which won't open, pickpockets etc etc can all require use of a Plan B, no matter how efficient and organised you've been in preparation.0 -

I don't think anybody was suggesting otherwise to be honest.0 -
Halifax should have just refunded her. I wouldnt have left until they had if it was me.0
