halifax euro mess

[FONT="]My daughter applied and paid for £350 worth of euros on line with the Halifax, to be picked up today as she is going on holiday tomorrow morning. When she went into the branch today she was told that her euros had not arrived and was told by the cashier to phone later in the day. So she phoned in the afternoon and the Euros still hadn't arrived, frantic She asked for her money to be given back so that she could get some euros elsewhere. Sarah was told that this could not happen and that she would have to find another £350 elsewhere! As a student she does not have this money and I had to loan it to her so she could go on holiday. She then went to Thomas Cook and had to spend £358 (not £350 as with the halifax) to get even less euros (410).
What would have happened if I couldn't loan her the money?....going on holiday with no spending money isn't a nice prospect

lots of people go on holiday these days without cash. CC and DC work well abroad as long as they are the right ones.
Agreed though not very good service from the Halifax, but most places on the hight st would have that many euros in stock0 -
She has now passed the next two units in the University of Life.
Never leave important stuff to the last minute.
If you have no alternative and do leave it late , don't rely on the internet if failure will cause a problem.0 -

the on-line ordering was fine as the halifax branch knew that the euros should have been there, so it would have been the same if she had gone into the branch and booked them
the halifax blamed the royal mail0 -
Lol at royal mail.
Can see Amex or whoever stuffing envelopes full of foreign notes and travellers cheques into a pillar box...
Surprised they didn't have them in stock, though.Bossymoo

Was the rate that much better than your local sains or tescos who seem to be around the best rates on the high st, and would have had them in stock0 -
The last few weeks have been extremely busy on the sales of currency, most shops have limits of how much stock to keep in and unfortunately they are reliant on the royal mail or securicor delivering on time.
The moral of the tale really is don't leave it to the last minute, also does her insurace cover her for that much money if its lost or stolen before she gets chance to put it in her hotel safe.
As for the rate in TC she should have asked for the internet rate, which they would have given her she must of got the under £500 walk in of the street rate.0 -
This happened to me once with Travelex at the airport.
They took days to give me my money back.travelover0 -

She was only getting 350 quid not 350k!
I wouldn't call ordering it online a day before picking it up as leaving it until the last minute either. She used a service that was based on picking it up the day after ordering. I think this is pretty bad service from Halifax.0 -

LOL
bank says pick euros up on Tuesday
Customer goes to pick euros up on Tuesday
money not there on Tuesday
Can't get money back of bank to get euros from elsewhere
= customers fault
ps she actually ordered them on-line 4 days before she was due to pick them up0
