Which card? - given partners adverse credit

Hi,

Whilst my credit record is clean my partner has a single default which is not settled from about 4 years ago (it is being paid back but the credit entry is not being updated to reflect this at all and hasn't been changed in the last 4 years). They do have a loan paid off with no missed payments and another one which has been running for 18 months or so again with nothing missed or late.

Wondering what my chances are of getting a decent mainstream card given I'm financially linked?

Any ideas / suggestions of who to try or who to definitely not try would be very welcome.

Thanks.

Why not go for the aqua cash back card, you get the 3% Back, it's a subprime lender which might the application easier, and so long as you don't carry a balance then it won't cost you anything. Limit is likely to be low though.

Would like to get something with a slightly bigger limit if poss as off to the states in the summer and would ideally like a card as a back up and something to stick holds on etc when you check into hotels / car hire.

I would say go for it, try your bank then creation if not
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

My bank has turned down a loan application so didn't really want to try them with a CC as well.

Bank with the Nationwide so the soft search looks great, lowest rate possible, but the full search for the loan was declined when they take my partners record into account. Assumed they would do the same for the CC.

are you saying your credit files show you are financially linked to some-one on a DMP and you can get credit easily?

The links exist because we have joint accounts and mortgage, this information is available to all who search the credit agencies and I assume was taken into account be everyone. Ideally I was trying to find somewhere that didn't neccessarily take this into account!
Do you share any accounts with your partner, do they show on your credit report as being financially linked?
Perhaps I'll try one of the three you mention. Trouble with the soft search is that I don't think it takes linked people into account so everything looks good until the final apply button.

Ran the soft search on supermarket website and it's thrown up a few cards with a 8 out of 10 rating (is this good?). Unfortunately the best ones for overseas, i.e. no loading, are 7 out of 10 at best (Halifax Clarity).
Is it worth risking going for the 7 /10 card rather than an 8/10 card?

Do the nationwide credit card quote that will tell you what apr they will offer you and your credit limit without a full credit search just a soft search.

But if your not financially linked on Equifax then barclaycard would be your best one which Also does a PRE-selected quote.
