Thankyou icklehen!! You should definately start a diary - I don't think I would have saved even a 1/4 of the amount I have if I hadn't of been updating here xx
Well the countdown has started....12 days to go!
Today is a great day because:- The sun is shining
- We have started packing
- My sisters boyfriend is coming home from Afghan
:D:D
- I have the feeling that progress is being made!
I think I am going to have to keep as tight a rein on the money as possible but I know I am not going to be able to keep counting the pennies quite as strictly as before until we have settled down after the move. I might actually keep a money notepad as then I can write down all of the spends and have no excuse even when we don't have the computer set up/no internet at new house at first.
Then once we have payday on 31st I will try and do a budget for the month coming and see if I can get the control back.
Must go now as lots to do but will keep keeping here updated and I will soon have my mortgage start figure and will be able to join the MFiT challenge!!! YEY!!!!
Stacey x2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.
Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(0 -
Just wanted to list some mini goals I need to stick to until moving day:
1. All evening meals out of the freezer - both freezers are full so need to run these down as don't want to get anything ruined in the move.
2. Aim to pack at least 2 boxes a day until move day.
3. Keep diary updated to make sure I know where I need to be and when.
4. Keep spends as under control as they can be.
5. Buy all bits needed for mums 50th presents/party so one less thing to worry about a week after the move.
6. Get work questionnaires completed and returned before move day.
7. Keep banks and budgets updated every few days so know where we are at all the time.
8. Remember to hand in our notice on current rented home ASAP!
9. Keep persevering with selling unwanted items even if they go for less than I wanted it is better than giving them away.
10. Try and only move items that we know we want to keep/have room for. Be ruthless!

Hello everyone.
I haven't disappeared but just been very busy packing etc.
Going to the solicitors today to sign contracts etc and we are on track to get the keys on Friday!
Spent all weekend moving a shed, greenhouse, two log stores, a coal store and lots more to various family & friends as none of this will fit in our new small garden and our current rented garden is huge.
Plans for the week are to get packed up, including packing a suitcase with 3 days worth of clothes/nappies/toiletries etc to last over the moving weekend in case anything gets lost or we can't find the box to unpack.
We are borrowing a van this weekend for the big move so need to prioritise essentials and anything that won't fit in the car so that by the end of the weekend we are in a position that we don't need to borrow a van again (at least that;'s the plan!)
Update to Mini Goals -
1. All evening meals out of the freezer - both freezers are full so need to run these down as don't want to get anything ruined in the move. So far so good freezer slightly empty but didn't realise how much was in there!
2. Aim to pack at least 2 boxes a day until move day. DONE so far
3. Keep diary updated to make sure I know where I need to be and when. DONE so far
4. Keep spends as under control as they can be. DONE so far
5. Buy all bits needed for mums 50th presents/party so one less thing to worry about a week after the move. Most of this done but still a couple of bits to get/organise.
6. Get work questionnaires completed and returned before move day. DONE
7. Keep banks and budgets updated every few days so know where we are at all the time. DONE so far
8. Remember to hand in our notice on current rented home ASAP! DONE
9. Keep persevering with selling unwanted items even if they go for less than I wanted it is better than giving them away. DONE although at the point now where unwanted items will have to go to charity shop even if they are worth something.
10. Try and only move items that we know we want to keep/have room for. Be ruthless! So far so good
Must go now as kids need me but will be back to update soon x

All the very best for Friday, hope all goes well. It will be a lovely weekend knowing you are proud house owners :j0 -
Hey, good luck for Friday. I've subscribed to your thread and will keep learning from you.
It'll be so exciting to have a home of your own. I've been a homeowner for 6 years now and I still enjoy the feeling of walking through my own front door. It'll feel even better when I'm not renting 60% of it from the mortgage company though!I'm a qualified accountant but please make sure you get expert advice as any opinion is made in a private capacity.

Aw thank you everyone, I actually had a little tear in my eye when I saw I had loads of well wishes!! It really does mean a lot that people leave a comment (especially such lovely ones) and I hope I can spend the next few years getting to know you all on my MF journey.
SO the update this lovely Sunday morning is.....
.... We are in!!!!!! :j:beer::T:D
I must admit yesterday lunchtime half way through the move I was almost in tears due to the sheer stress of having two houses both messy neither unpacked, two kids who wouldn't nap and then the worries of will our neighbours like us, are they nice, problems with the boiler and the realisation that we may either be without heating and potentially face a big plumbers bill.....
However my mum came to the rescue and looked after the children in the afternoon, we managed to move all the furniture in and unpack most of the kitchen. The (1 year old!) boiler wasn't broken (the overflow pipe was literally running water out) my husband had turned a tap on that he shouldn't have when he turned the water & boiler on so that was resolved and the heating worked fine all night. I haven't seen the neighbours yet so hope they are ok although nothing to suggest otherwise.
Lots of things to do today including moving lots of garden toys/stuff, moving lots and lots more boxes, going to B&Q to buy locking window handles, a lock for the bathroom door, extension cable for the TV (all unbudgeted!), also need to get shelving for pantry as cannot unpack until I have this.
Spends haven't been too bad so far although we are going to have to buy a new washing machine as ours needs a hot and cold feed and there is only a cold feed here. We were debating whether now is the right time as it is 7 years old and has been causing us trouble/had bits replaced in the last couple of years so now is the time I guess.
Hubby is due a PPI refund any day now so just hoping that comes soon!
Thank you all again, your support is really very appreciated.
I will update again soon, hopefully with some figures etc too.
Thank you, thank you, than you!

Glad you/re officially starting your journey now
Looking forward to reading how you're getting along. I think it's sensible not to get too carried away wanting to buy new things instantly, change things to your taste etc and do it step by step, waiting til you see the right thing. You've got the January sales not too far away as well remember.
Good luck in your new home anyway#39 - Save £12k in 20250
