what would you do - off chicken?

Options
Just opened our chicken for tea tonight and it's off in date until tomorow and its green in places and smells rancid.

We live 6 miles away from Asda so the cost of chicken would be offset again diesel and we'd be no better off for taking it back?

I don't mind cooking or eating a chicken a day or two past the date on the packet if it's been stored properly in the fridge(otherwise I could not eat it all)but in this situation...no way should you eat it(I don't think you were considering doing so by your post)

If it's within the date and has been stored properly ASDA should offer a voucher or replacement at least.

But I can appreciate what it costs to return it. Then again I was promised that there was something to be collected at Tesco's otherwise I would not have gone there on that day. I was given my Taxi fare.

I have been told in the past to freeze it and take it in when I could - if you ring them first at least they will know it is today and you aren't trying it on.

I would contact your local council Environmental Health department. Or at least, ring Asda and tell them that you will be contacting the council.

You could do with more than a simple replacement.

Phone Asda and tell them. Keep your reciept and take it to customer services next time go shop there and ask for your money back. Also tell Trading Standards at your council. We had a supply problem wth a local independent supermarket and when I rang TS they said they'd had several complaints and went round to the supermarket to get to the bottom of it all.

I used to work in a supermarket customer service desk and we would sometimes get people bringing back packaging where they'd thrown the food away, saying it was off in date, etc, but they kept the packet and waited until the next time they were coming to the shop. We always used to have to give them the refund - the customer's always right!
