If the phone is a HTC or Samsung why are people talking about Iphones and Apple?
£20 is far too much to pay to unlock a phone.
Not sure exactly which model phone you are talking about, but if it is an Android phone, you may be able to unlock it yourself (for free). Depends on the model.
If not, get an unlock code off on ebay (check feedback of seller first). These usually cost between £5 and £10 and arrive within 24 hours.
Don't pay £20 to Orange. And if they can't be bother giving your £20 code in a reasonable time demand a refund, and get someone else to unlock the phone for much less.0 -
he replaced the phone with an Apple iphone 4s from Carphone Warehouse

Ooops! Sorry you are right.
In that case, disregard my post. Iphones are much harder to fully unlock via other routes than Android phones.0 -
Well I rang again yesterday morning and spent another 40 mins explaining it all again to a supervisor who still insisted that it wasn't their responsibility to provide the code. On pointing out that they had taken the fee for it (he insisted they hadn't - then said Oh (silence) you have I was asked to hold while he checked, came back and was full of apologies, confirmed the IMEI number - they had that wrong, must have given it to them at least a dozen times, oh and they had the e-mail address down wrong as well, and told me I would have the code today............................. yep you guess right NO FLAMMIN CODE........
Think I'm going to take the more than helpful advice I've received on here and get a refund & go via E-bay.
Anyhows I'll update - I know, I know you're thrilled as the prospect:p

Try giving him an email... try and make the email short and sweet but get your points across...its worth a try you have waited all this time what you got to loose.

Hi,
I have just bought an iphone 3g from an ebay seller saying it is unlocked. If it is only sim unlocked and not factory unlocked does this mean I will not be able to use it overseas with a local sim card?
thanks0 -
I am no expert, but I think there is no any difference between 'sim unlocked' and 'factory unlocked'. If the phone can work with different UK major networks, then it will work with any local sim abroad.0
