How do you declare SORN without the relevant documents?
Went on vehiclelicence.gov.uk & it says you need the V11 or logbook.
All we currently have at the moment is the new keepers tear off slip - the garage is sending off the V5 & it can take 4-5 weeks or so from previous experience, for it to come through. Also when we were buying the car, he had a backlog of forms he'd not sent off, so God knows when he'll get round to it.
So as it stands, how do you declare SORN without these papers? How to make a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification)
Not yet registered as the vehicle keeper
If the vehicle isn't registered in your name, you must fill in section six and sign section eight on the V5C and fill in a V890. If you don't have the V5C you must fill in a 'Application for a registration certificate' (V62) (fee payable). Send in both the V890 and V5C or V62 to DVLA, Swansea SA99 1AR.
I would be ringing DVLA tomorrow.

If you only have the new keeper supplement you will either have to go to the DVLA office or pay for tax at the PO and get a refund for the remaining months when the V5 comes back.
Is there not a way for the dealer to do it as this is not a unique situation ?0 -
Found the number earlier. She's going to be calling the office tomorrow. She wont be paying for any months tax either. Will see what comes of the phone call.0

Righty-O...
Logbook came through today for the new car, so that's all good. There's a lad at my work who's interested in buying my mums old car off her.
Thing is, as already said - it's registered disabled, and he's not.
Does the present owner/seller HAVE to change this, or can the new owner/buyer do this?
Only reason i ask is we live a good trek from the "local" DVLA office, whereas this lad at work lives right near it, so it'd be much easier for him to do it, if that was possible.
Then once the car is sold, all that's needed to be done is change the insurance over so my mum can tax the new car.
Another question: Does she need to 'hand in' the disabled tax from her current car in order to get 'free' tax for her new car? Or can she just register it disabled at the post office & then this will auto-enable her for free tax?0 -

The thing is, the tax on her current car expires at the end of Aug. Ideally (now the paperwork is through) she wants to be driving the new car.
She wont be able to tax the new car for free, as the current car has her free tax allowance on it & from memory when dad had his 2 cars, he had to PAY for tax on his second car, which is what she's wanting to avoid.
So how does she go about getting her free tax allowance on the new one, when she has a little more than a month remaining on her current tax?0 -
Any takers on that last one? Don't want to have to wait until the end of Aug to switch over.0
