Small Defra Approved Stove

I am going to have a small defra approved stove installed and I have been round the showrooms but I want to ask if anybody has recommendations out of these stoves. The stove is going in the kitchen so it will not really be a super expensive "feature" stove and it will be a primary source of heat apart, from when the real freezing weather comes when it will complement the central heating. I want no more than 5Kw as I do not want to have external air vents installed. I would prefer to buy made in Britain in these economic times to support the local workers.
So I have read whatstove.co.uk but some models are new and do not have reviews.
I am looking at
Firefox 5 cleanburn
Tiger Cleanburn
Carron 5Kw
Aga Little Wenlock Classic
Aarow Ecoburn 5
So any views on the above or any recommendations of other stoves I should be looking at.
TIA

Hi Tia,
of the stoves you are looking at only the Aga and Aarrow are British made.
Both get good reviews on http://www.whatstove.co.uk/
If it's a woodburner you are considering I would also have a look at Burley which are said to be the most efficient stove on the market and also British made.

Sadly, I think you'll find that the Aga is no longer made in England. It used to be made at Coalbrookdale, the birthplace of cast iron, but Aga, in an act of vandalism, shut the factory. I have been told that the Little Wenlock is now made in Ireland.
If it were me, I'd buy the Aarrow or, more likely, a Dunsley, which have the reputationm of being some of the best stoves made and are thoroiughly British. I believe they do a 5KW approved model.

Hope that helps.0 -
Thanks for that mr Badger, you learn something new everyday.
What do you think about Burley ?, they seem to be well liked and said to be very efficient although the look may not be to everyones taste.
I had a fiddle with one in a stove shop and they appear to be well made, however they only came out in 2010 so guess we will have to see how they perform over time.

The Aarrow does look like it will fit the bill but I have been doing more searching and there seems to be a manufacturer down in Devon hillandale stoves
The Hillandale Montery 5 looks a nice stove, no reviews on whatstove though.0 -

I'm afraid I've never seen one (nor a Hillandale), Willie. The thing that worries me about new brands is whether they will manage to stay in business and keep spares available. It's tough on new makers, but something one has to bear in mind.
I should have added that I had one of the Coalbrookdale Little Wenlocks (similar to a current 'Classic' I believe) and loved it, despite the fact that it was quite primitive in many respects and got through firebricks in no time at all.0 -

My choice ended up between the aarrow and a stovax stockton (with a smoke control kit).
I ended up with the stovax purely off the back of i couldn't find a local stockist of the aarrow.
I wanted to have a "play" before i made a choice and a local place had a stovax set up in use.
I really liked the Nestor Martin "harmony" range but the price was somewhat prohibitive.0 -
Myself, and my family can definantly reccommend the Aarrow Ecoburns.
I have an Ecoburn 9, my uncle has an ecoburn 5, and my dad, after seing mine working and spending a few nights infront of it, is now having his gas fire ripped out and he has ordered an ecoburn 9 which is being delivered on thursday.
I will take some before and after pictures and post them up.
he has the same man fittting his who did mine, so i know it will be a top job0
