Like the £9 dress dd spotted for me in the M&S sale recently (thankyou sweetie;) she's only 8, nicknames me cheapskate but is glad of it too!), reduced from about £50! No end of complements for that and I havent replied 'it was only £9'Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

When my son was a baby, I remember a few older mums were surprised and even delighted to see me using terry nappies.
My DH looked incredulous when the 2 brand new PS2 games I'd ordered after an MSE tip-off arrived, he asked how much they were and I told him £2 each including p&p!
I have to admit, if someone compliments me on something I'm wearing, I seldom resist the temptation to tell them how little it cost.
I used to have a Tesco receipt that I loved to show people (don't shop at Tesco now cos they're evil) for a basketful of shopping, including many luxury items, for 16p! Sadly, the ink was not permanent so it faded into blank white paper, and even more sadly, Tesco have since corrected the anomoly which used to apply a discount of the full price of one product in a BOGOF offer, meaning that if they were reduced to less than half price you would not only get those products for free (assuming you bought an even number, of course), but also save money on the rest of your shopping.1 -
moggins your DH sounds like mine. So far this year he has bought himself an MP3 player with extras and a top line Sat navigation unit for the car.
I've told him I want a laptop and he asks why? Anyway I'm saving all my coins towards one, hopefully I'll have enough by Christmas because I don't want anything fancy.
Sorry that was off thread but both dd and ds cook most of their meals from scratch, in fact ds at uni is much more inventive with food than I ever was and they both ask me for money saving tips with regard to food.1 -
When I first started to bulk buy my husband would just roll his eyes at me. Like what is she on.
But he eats well and we never run of loo rolls so he is happy.
Just need to get him to start come here more more often.

Circumstances have forced me to be OS all my life. However I see it in a very positive way. Through the skills that I have we have managed to keep our head above water when many would have thought we would have sunk. My friends and relations are used to the way we do things and I can honestly say that no-one has ever complained about it. (If you met me you would know why no-one would complain to me:eek: )
Well known for my skills in finding a bargain they come to me to find out the best place to buy. I now usually direct them to this site cos it is easier.
My home is happy, warm and there is always room and food for everyone who visits. There have always been a lot of visitors cos so many of my children's friends over the years were not allowed to have too many friends in cos of the expensive furniture etc. Surprisingly these 'fussy' teenagers (my youngest is now 19) have never complained about the lack of branded foods maybe cos as one of them puts it I am "never knowingly undercatered!":rotfl:
I know that if I had a bigger income I would remain the same. It must be in the genes cos my grandmother was always proud of "making 6d do the work of a shilling!"True wealth lies in contentment - not cash. Dollydaydream 20061 -
When mine were in the infants we used to walk to school most days.
Our neighbour taking 'pity' on us,sometimes offered a lift home and was shocked when I said we liked the walk.
MIL was impressed with the 'feed your family for £5 a day' book on my shelf but nearly fainted when I said we didnt spend as much as that.1 -

So far this year DH has bought a brand new custom built PC (costing £600) when all we needed was a bigger hard drive for the old one. About 1000 DVD's (maybe a slight exageration there), 1 20gb ipod, new Sony headphones for said ipod and a surround sound cinema system. Now he's talking about getting a people carrier because DS is getting too big to site behind him in the car. If he was to move his driving position just 1 click forward then DS would fit nicely!
He then proceeds to moan about every penny I spend if he thinks it's not necessary, I even refuse to take him shopping with me anymore as I'm fed up of him asking if we really need it but it takes me hours to drag him out of every DVD shop going. I am over the moon that MVC and Silver Screen have closed down.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

I am intrigued - how do you do that? (I don't go to Tescos myself) Do go to sainsburys sometimes though, would it work there?

First of all I have to say this wasn't my idea, I found it somewhere on the OS board so THANk YOU to that person
If you find receipts that someone has left in a trolly or whatever, and they have a barcode on the bottom and something like 'You could have earned 19 clubcard points...' then just take them to the Customer Service desk and ask them to add the points to your card. Nobody has ever questioned me on it though my local Tesco gets funny if you take too many at once because they have to add each receipt separately.
I have no idea if it works the same at Sainsburys but have wondered the same myself. I've never heard anyone mention it on OS but you never know!
