DH went to the pub raving about my pea and ham soup - done in the slow cooker with a ham shank.
Every bloke in there went home asking their OH "Why don't you cook soup?"
Nearly caused a riot! lol!"This site is addictive!"

Our friends are a great bunch and we tend to do alot of home entertaining rather than going out. They were amazed at how little I could cook a meal for and this has had a knock on effect with them. We now make it sort of a game where we don't spend more than £5 per head which includeds wine, and see who can come up with the most ingenious ideas. It does get very competitive but great fun.Rebel No 221

And he's a youngster - 33 yr old, doesn't looklike someone who knits, whatever that is!
He has also passed on some hints to his workmates about the things I do - his fave one was freezing leftover roast potatoes.
My hubby knits (36), he has done since a long spell of illness as a teenager when he was stuck in bed. He has a 45 foot long scarf:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: Wish he'd knit somethjing useful:p.
As for everyone else, apart from my best friend who likes the idea but works stupidly long hours in central London & can't get to grips with OSing, evenyone else thinks I'm bonkers. Some are amused by it, others think it's an unhealthy obsessionMostly I don't bother telling them anymore, just enjoy it;)

I have kind of converted my boyfriends daughter. They used to go shopping every day and just buy whatever they fancied in ready made form and spend a fortune. I told her about making meals from scratch and shopping weekly (they have only got a small freezer). Now she has a meal planner and makes most things from scratch.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20041

I'm converting my boyfriend bit by bit... it started in the supermarkets, when we went in the evening, rather than the day, at reducing time, and got over 30 quids worth of food for about 6 quid.
the real turning point was when we had a pan that was just crusted with burnt on food, and 30 second with some bicarb and lemon cleaned it straight off.
Now I pretty much have carte blanche as regards what we use for cleaning, or how I shop.Softstuff- Officially better than 0071 -
Hi Sarah,
I have merged your thread into another one on the same subject as it makes it easier for other Old Style readers to find all the replies on the same thread.

doddsyWe must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.

I used to get mocked by my family for my MSE ways, and even called tight because I refused to spend £50.00 on a Mothers Day present  Since my sister lost her job, she's slowly started to come round to my way of thinking but still wastes silly money and wouldn't dream of buying food from the reduced section.
TBH I really don't care these days what other people think, I'm far better off than I used to be and I'm enjoying cooking more and really thinking about things I spend my money on. :money:Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!1 -
I'm still trying to work out how I ended up with DH. He's not exactly a spendthrift as he will try and shop for the cheapest alternative and doesn't mind eating value stuff but he has to have every technical gadget going whereas I would be happy being AmishOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things
